Compressor giving quicktime error QuickTime Error: -8972

QuickTime Error: -8972
that's what I get when I try to use compressor on any video file. Going from 1080i HDV edited in final cut to anything else. I'm trying to go to something archival but still HD, i'm thinkin prores, but i can't convert

Mac Pro 2.8x8, Mac OS X (10.5.3)

Error -8972 is a "codecConditionError"

I don't know exactly what that means, but that's what it is.

What version of FCP, Compressor, and Quicktime do you have installed?

Are you exporting directly out of FCP to Compressor?

Have you tried exporting a self-contained Quicktime movie from FCP then compressing that?

What is the original codec of the movie? Quicktime conversion gives these kind of messages with mp4 files or other 'output' codecs. If quicktime can't convert MPEG STREAMCLIP will.
It's free and works excellent. You can convert to any quicktime format.
It's reads almost any file.
