Connecting apple TV to LCD monitor?

Is it possible to connect the apple tv to a computer monitor (not TV) that has a HDMI port? I am considering buying a new screen and want to know whether it is worth going for one with a HDMI connection.

mbp, Mac OS X (10.5.1)

If it's HDMI compliant then it should accept an HDMI input from the tv. You may also want to ensure that it is also HDCP compliant.

What is HDCP? Would for example the apple tv work with my existing monitor (which has DVI) with a HDMI-DVI adaptor cable?

HDCP - High-Bandwidth Digital Content Protection

basically both sides have to be HDCP compliant... the AppleTV is, but if the display isn't you won't be able to watch HDCP content.

Yes. I do it all the time with my Samsung LCD monitor using HDMI to DVI cable (about $12). HDCP is not supported on the Samsung and doesn't seem to matter. The ATV doesn't work well with many DVI switchers, but other than that, no problems. Go for it.
