I am having exactly the same problem and it started for me this morning too. So it's likely happening from the server side and is a problem with mac.com's mail server (rather than something individual to our computers).

(Which begs the question about whether the problem has been posted by someone else to another forum here and whether mac.com admins are aware of this problem.)

Anyway--I'm looking for a solution too...

Michelle,

FYI, I've also posted about the problem to another thread in the mac support forums related to mac.com email:
Apple.com > Support > Discussions > Communicate > .Mac Email On Your Desktop

The link to this other post is:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1575248&tstart=0

Let's watch both places and see if anyone else reports the problem. I will post if I learn anything...

Incidentally, the problem continues.

Daniel

I've been getting this since yesterday, too. Every single email I send or receive generates an error message from the .mac server. It's really getting quite annoying. Here's an example:

Apple, what's going on?

Jun 27, 2008 9:20 AM in response to danielnyc

Good Morning Daniel
I got on the live chat support last night and the apple rep couldn't determine exactly what was going on. All he said was that the problem was on their side and this was a not a phishing scam. However, because he could not resolve it he was sending this matter up to more qualified technicians who are suppose to email me within 24 to 48 hours. I sent him the link to our thread so he could see that I wasn't the only one with this issue. I had 80 + of those messages in my trash this morning! Thanks for the heads up about the other thread. Will keep you posted.
cheers Michele

Michele-
I sent a request to .Mac Support and just got the following reply regarding this issue (which basically says they are aware of it and it should be corrected in the next 24 hours):

-----------------------------
Dear Daniel,

This is Al from .Mac Support and I understand you are receiving an error message with every message you receive which refers to an "error in sieve filter." I can help you with this and I apologize for any inconvenience you experienced.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention Daniel. This was a result of a temporary issue with the .Mac service. Apple worked quickly to identify and resolve the issue. It may take up to an additional 24 hours for these changes to take affect.

Your data was not affected, and you should now be able to receive mail without this error message. I'm sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.

If you are still experiencing issues after 24 hours with your .Mac account, please reply directly to this message. with a description of any troubleshooting steps you've taken.

Sincerely,

Al
.Mac Support
