Wireless keyboard won't turn on after changing battery

This is what happened:

I got a message yesterday telling me that the battery for my wireless keyboard was low and I should replace them. This morning, before I switched on my Mac, I put in new battery for the wireless keyboard. Then I switched on my Mac. And I got a message on the screen saying that There's no keyboard connected and couldn't find any keyboards. I thought that maybe I need to turn on the keyboard to make it work. So I pressed the power button and noticed that the green light doesn't even come up..

What's going on? Is my wireless keyboard already dead??

Any advice would be appreciate it. Thanks.

My wireless keyboard wouldn't turn on after I changed batteries. I tried the foil ball and other recommendations. Nothing worked. I thought something had failed or disconnected inside. I flipped it over to look for access to the back and noticed a faint graphic on the exterior of the battery tube.

I had put the batteries in 6 times and didn't pay attention to they way they came out. I reversed them and we're back in business. Green light is on.

I know my way around a spludger, I've changed hard drives, fans & memory in multiple MacBooks and missed the most obvious solution.

If you've given up on your wireless keyboard, give this a try. User uploaded file

Just to add another voice to this. Same thing here: low battery level, replaced batteries but then didn't get a green light. Tried another set of batteries, but didn't work. Found this thread, inserted aluminum and now I'm typing on the resurrected keyboard.

Thanks for the tip! And.....to Apple: You guys need to fix this! Most people probably just throw away their keyboards when they stop working and that's really not okay given the price of this thing and how easy the fix was. But this is Apple's job, not ours.

Same story, change batteries then dead. after reading all of the comments I tried the aluminum foil trick.... I WORKS! Somebody tell me why so many people are having the same problem at the same time and the answer is "aluminum foil"!!! Get real, I thought we were using MAC machines. do the foil though that does work!

My keyboard has no problem connecting the batteries although I did the tinfoil trick just in case.

My keyboard will show the green light for like a second then it disappears which I assume means that the keyboard turns off and doesn't give the computer a chance to connect to it.

Is there any fix for this? It just started last week I believe. I rarely even use this mac so as far as the keyboard being used and abused that is not the case at all as it normally just sits here doing nothing.

Hi,

I have the same problem; reinserted the little gray cap and can't get it out. Aluminum wireless keyboard won't power up. No green light. Nothing.

Did you find a solution? Does the foil work if you've already reinserted the gray cap? I'd like to know before I stick anything else down there.

Also, can the small plastic shield covering one of the batteries in the battery compartment be removed or is it permanent?

Thanks!
Joan

I had this issue happen a couple months ago. I balled up some solder, dropped it in and it worked. I went to change my batteries yesterday, and the ball came out with the batteries - and now I can't get it working again.

Has there been any official word on getting this fix? I'm out of warranty and don't want to pay $80 for a new wireless keyboard with battery compartment issues.

Same for me!!
After changing batteries the Keyboard could not switched on again, The green light was not working anymore after pushing the ON button.
After the little operation, putting the allu paper little ball it works again!!

Thank you very much for the tip!!

Many thanks for the aluminum foil solution-worked immediately. Sad, sad, sad that one has to have to find their own solutions such as this. My keyboard is two months out of warranty. As an addendum, my wireless mouse has become useless as well after 14 months. Scroll works only intermittently despite cleaning as recommended and scroll ball no longer able to bring up dashboard by pressing it. Lousy quality control.

This is ridiculous! My keyboard stop working and I just found this discussion thread. It seems a lot of people have the same problem for this past 2 years!
I've tried the foil ball tip twice and finally got it to work.
Basically the size and the location of the ball probably matters too. It can't be too small, can't be too big either.
But I just feel NOT happy about the fact we need to use a tip like this to solve the issue. Apple you should do something!! 😟

I thought you all were crazy, but I had nothing to lose.
I had already tried 3 sets of batteries and even followed a different thread which had me sand the bottom + contact with a dremel tool, all to no avail.
So I decided to try the "foil theory" if nothing else for the amusement factor.
Well, I am writing this from my wireless keyboard! I cannot believe this worked!
Good post you guys.

Well,

I recently came across this problem too last night and was very negative about getting it working again, but here I am on the same keyboard.

This is how I solved the problem:-

With the battery chamber cleaned (quickily with no technical stuff, a bit of kitchen towel and a chop stick did the trick) I left the keyboard, battery chamber left open, in the sun for half an hour, including the batteries to give them some sun love.

Then, still feeling negative I passed all parts to my girlfriend who put all together with good vibes and on re-assembly no 2, it works!!!!!

Nothing technical just a bit of positivity and perserverance.

Hope this helps.

Ok...my problem is similar, yet different. One day I decided to use my 4 month old aluminum wireless keyboard, and it wasn't working. I thought maybe it just needed to be re-paired with the computer since I had unplugged it for a couple minutes (while it was already off). Anyways, I tried to re-pair it with the computer, pressed the power button, and the green LED light came on for approximately 5 seconds before turning off. Thinking it was the batteries that were dead, I went out and bought new batteries. Same thing...green LED came on for 5 seconds and then turned off. My computer still recognizes it...when I search for BT devices, it locates the keyboard in the 5 seconds the light is on, but the keyboard itself doesn't stay on. Hopefully some one has some idea...perhaps its the start of the tin foil problem.
