Final Cut Pro & Photoshop 2D to 3D photos

Hi - I've been on FCP for 7 years now. Using both Photoshop and FCP to create photo/video montages. I'm noticing new techniques making 2D pictures look 3D and flying through the photo. From what I can tell, I'm going to need to get either After Effects or Motion to accomplish this.

My question is - does anyone have a FCP/Photoshop solution to the scenario above before I go out and purchase either Motion or After Effects.

Here is just one of many You/Tube examples of what I'm trying to do. Any direction in this area would be greatly appreciated - THANKS!

I will be posting this on the Adobe website as well.....

Hate to break it to you, but the way that specific shot was created was with a very complex program written by researchers at Carnegie Mellon University. Not something that can be done simply (the way they have done it).

To get something similar you may be able to do something with Photoshop's vanishing point and import that data into After Effects.

Other than that there is the 2.5D route, which may be something you'd be interested in.

You can easily do that in After Effects or Motion. Or even Photoshop and Final Cut. Just cut out each object, put them on separate video tracks, then keyframe each track in Final Cut's motion tab.

What version of Final Cut do you have btw? Motion came with Final Cut Studio 1 and 2, and can now only be purchases buying the entire Studio package.

Thanks - I know about the Carnegie Mellon people and the Make3D. I need to be able to accomplish this idea in my office. And I did check out your You/Tube suggestion Thank you - saw that yesterday and it's Exactly what I want to do. I believe some of these examples on You/Tube have been done with FCP and Photoshop. I just wish someone would give me one example. I know how to cut stuff out of photo's and move stuff in FCP. My problem is the realism of it. Depth of field, etc..... I'm looking for a step by step example with a photo using FCP and of course cut outs from photoshop.

My FCP version is 5.1.4 and trying to not purchase studio just yet:)

Thanks for your response....if you have more thoughts - I would welcome them:)

See if this helps. It's for After Effects but you get the basic principles of making it look "real".

(If you haven't Google searched the topic, you should. That's how I came across this article.)

Also, just cut out the photo and put it in Final Cut and start messing around. That's how I found out what looked best for me when I did something like this.

Here are a couple of AE links that might help you. The first one uses Illustrator files, however I think the concept is close to what you are trying to achieve. The second link is to AE basic training, and the third to the Motion 3 tutorial, which you may have already viewed.

Hope this helps.
