SMTP 553 Error w/ ATT Broadband - Can't send email

I am having an issue sending email. Messages are getting caught up in the outbox and the verification is rejecting the messages b/c of what appears to be CAPITAL LETTERS.

Ie.
The sender address bob@Xxxxx.com was rejected by the server smtp.att.yahoo.com.

Select a different outgoing mail server from the list below or click Try Later to leave the message in your Outbox until it can be delivered.

Sending from: Bob Xxxxx <bob@Xxxxxa.com>

ATT responded to the problem and explained that the capital X is the reason that the message is being rejected and that everything needed to be in lowercase. I have deleted the account and it all appears in lowercase, however ATT and the error message is still reporting a capital X.

What can be causing this and what is the solution. I have deleted and re-added the account and everything appears to be in lowercase.

Thanks.

Thanks orangekay, but I addressed the authorization of the domain several months ago and this isn't the problem - the problem is that Mac Mail seems to be sending using uppercase. I have been through this issue w/ ATT support (tier 2) and they have explicitly told me this is the issue.

Domains and email addresses should not be case sensitive - however b/c of new spam filters they have set up this is now an issue. I am successful sending the mail ~20% of the time which leads me to also believe that some of there servers are running different rules.

So - How can I address the Xxxxx.com issue?

thanks

Again, using your own mail server would be best for everyone concerned. Assuming what AT&T's support reps told you was true, they clearly have no interest in supporting mail relaying and you should not rely on them (or any other ISP) for this purpose.

As to why Mail is sending a capital letter in the first place, you must have typed one in at some point as I've never seen it do this of its own accord. Choose "Edit Server List" from the "Outgoing Mail Server" popup menu in that account's preferences and check out the "Advanced" options.

I have deleted the account and re-configured -- still getting the same problem and in some cases it has come back ALL CAPS.

I've just started using AT&T broadband at my office and have been having similar issues with outgoing mail. A general question about outgoing mail settings - Should your outgoing mail settings always use the ISP you are using to get online? I use Charter cable at home and all my outgoing mail to set for smtp.charter.net even though some are not Charter accounts. Should I do the same at my office using ATT for all my outgoing mail? Thanks.
