iPod won't appear in iTunes or in My Computer. Help please

Hello

my iPod is fully charged (2nd gen nano), and charged up last night.
When i plug it in to put more songs on, it won't appear in iTunes or my computer. I know that the USB port is working fine, becuase i tried my pen drive and that was fine, and the iPod screen lights up.
I've dont the first 4 R's - Reset, Retry, Restart and Reinstall.
But i don't really want to do Restroe, because it will wipe everything off my iPod, and if i then still can't get it to sync, then i'm abit screwed.
Any toher ideas from anyone?
Any help would be good 🙂

thankyouu

Mine is doing the same thing.
I leave it on my dock most of the time so it is always charged but once I try to hook it up to my laptop and add new music it doesn't work at all!
It only tells me it's charging.
I just bought a new cable USB hook up seeing if that worked.
One of my friends said it did for her but it's not for me.
Any help would be great!

I just went back and read the older posts and the replies.
I tried one and it work extremely well!
All you have to do is plug your iPod in to the USB spot and then hold down the Menu and Middle button till the little Apple logo came on.
It will come back on and say do not disconnect.
It worked and now my iPod is working with iTunes:)
Thanks everyone from the other posts:)

I am having the same problem. I have had this ipod for around a year and a half and it just now is giving me this problem. It will charge when connected to the computer but does not show the typical "connected to computer" screen and will not show up in itunes
I could NOT find it in my device manager and i tried every resolution i could find on the help site. ANYONE know any other resolution????

I have an Ipod Nano 2nd generation. I've tried 4 or the 5 R's, I've uninstalled ITunes rebooted and re-installed Itunes a couple times both computers. I also have gone through and uninstalled my USB root hubs in device manager and then re-installed them and still have the same problem. Ipod not recognized by Itunes or windows xp home or vista home premium. The Ipod charges but nothing else.

When the screen lights up, is there anything on the display? If it's just a white lit up screen, try to force it into disk mode (which can be difficult if you can't see anything). Essentially, turn the hold switch off so there's no orange color beneath it, hold the menu & middle buttons for 10 seconds and then immedidately hold the middle & play/pause buttons for 10 seconds. If it appears in iTunes at this point you may want to consider restoring.

If this is not the case and you see the normal display when it's connected to the computer, I'd suggest connecting it to a different USB port (preferably one directly on the back of the computer - avoid connecting the iPod via USB hubs, keyboards, printers, etc). Try this step even though your USB port works with other devices. You might also try a different USB cable if you have one from another iPod.
