DVD compatibility Europe-Argentina
A month ago, the school organised a festival with different acivities, performances, etc.
I filmed the whole event with a Sony camcorder and then edited everything in iMovie 06. I then moved everything tot iDVD 08 and added some menu's and some other cool stuff.
Now, as we live in Belgium, Europe, the DVD region is 2, whereas it's 1 in the US. There's also the differene in television standard, NTSC in the US and Japan, PAL in Europe.
Now I have already discovered that a DVD made and burned with iDVD is region "free", meaning ALL regions. Argentina is region 4, but that shouldn't pose a problem anyway. I also discovered that Argentina uses the PAL standard, but it's PAL-N, whereas we use PAL-B/G. Now, before DVD, there was another standard, SECAM, which was mainly used in France. When you bought a VHS in France, you couldn't play it in a PAL VCR (well, you could, but it was black and white). When DVD's came to pass, France did away with Secam and they used the PAL-standard as well. I don't know if NTSC has different types standards as well, but to cut a long story short, is PAL-N compatible with PAL B/G ?
In other words, will the DVD's I give the people to take back to Argentina work in their DVD-players ? Most DVD-players sold in Belgium support both the PAL and NTSC standard (as do the television sets), but I don't know about Argentina.
