Itunes will not save any of my preferences or eq settings

Hi,

I recently upgraded to itunes 7.6 and now itunes does not save any preferences or eq settings. Every time I close and re-open the program I have to re-enter my preferences and any eq presets I have created are gone. Songs still download just fine. I have tried re-installing but got the same results. If anyone can help I would appreciate it. I amusing a dell with windows xp home.

I have had the same problem for some time with iTunes 7.6 on my Mac. I just upgraded to iTunes 8.0 and the problem is still there. Every time I reopen the program it wants to go through the set-up assistant. Any ideas?

i have the same problem, my EQ keep opening up in flat, and also my volume is adjusted lower than the full volume option on itunes which won't save?? these are the only things i have noticed so far that i can't solve on itunes

You may have an issue with the preference file being corrupted.
From this article... http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1421
# Remove iTunes Preference files Some of the files that iTunes uses to store settings and preferences may be corrupt and cause issues. iTunes has two folders where preferences are saved. Move one of them to the desktop and test to see if the issue persists. If it does, move it back and remove the second folder. The location for the two preference folders are: * C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes * C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes

thanks this has solved my problem, tip for vista users, i used this address:

C:\Users\Julie\AppData\Local\Apple Computer\iTunes
obviously change the "julie" part

i would like to ask whether the itunespref file is needed since it's just sitting on my desktop? should i delete it?

Yes you can delete it. The moving it to the desktop bit is simply to hide it from iTunes so iTunes well then regenerate a brand new one. So if you look in your file path, you should see a new version sitting there. The idea is if that wasn't the problem, you could always move the one from the desktop back overwriting the newly generated one and get your old preferences back without having to change them all manually.
