How can I import Cd's to itunes faster?

My iTunes5 takes a long time (at least it seems that way to me) to import songs (the entire cd) from a cd to the library... is there a program out there that I can but that will allow me to import songs faster?.. my brother in law told me that he has some kind of program that imports music really fast from a cd onto his computer.. but he has windows.. is there such a program for mac?

thanks!

Vanessa,
It should only take around five to ten minutes to import a full CD. Turn off the 'play as they import' function in the preferences to speed things up a tad as well as closing any other apps while you are importing. I don't know of any programs to speed up import. The only things I can suggest are to run the permissions repair utility and a cache cleaner regularly to keep optimum performance.

It will also take a longer time if the CD is scratched or dirty. Some drives are better than others at reading through these errors. My old G3 233 Powerbook would read ANY disk, but the DVDRAM drive in my server is really picky. If you are doing a LOT of disks (like I did) it may be reasonable to buy an external drive that has more speed. They have gotten pretty cheap.

I just finished importing 403 cd's in the last 4 days, about 100 cds a day and the fastest it imported was about 5mins. I think it depends on the year the disc was made and / or quality of both the disc and the chosen bit-rate. Only about 4-5 discs out of the 403 froze and kept spinning leaving me to force quit, not bad at all. I'd rather it be a bit slower than getting those anoying glitches and clicks in the audio.
