Controlling iMac iTunes from an iBook via airport

Hi all,

I have a wireless network with an iMac G5 1.8GHz 20" and an iBook G4 1.33GHz 12". I'm aware that you can play a shared iTunes library over the network but what i want to do is play my iTunes library on my iMac with it's JBL Creature II speakers but by controlling it from my iBook. Basically I'd like to listen to music from my desktop speakers and (for example) skip/fast forward etc from my laptop in my bedroom. I sometimes use my Sony K700i as a Bluetooth remote control but this is unstable as soon as you go into another room. Any help and info will be much appreciated. Thanks!

You can program your own commands using AppleScript to control the iMac, or you can use this nifty little program called RemoteTunes (http://www.ovolab.com/remotetunes/). It is not a bad piece of software for only 15$. The only problems that I had with it was getting the ratings to change properly. This might be fixed in the most recent version, but I have not tried it.

Just browsing thru trying to find some info on using my new K750i as a remote for iTunes. How did you set up your K700i for this and can you give me any more info?? Sorry to step into your thread like this but I can't find anything anywhere else......

Hi Andy,

To do this i use a very handy program called Salling Clicker. Unfortunately for you it looks like there is not yet any support for the K750i but i'm sure it won't be long before you can use it. I'd highly recommend it as its easy to use and very responsive. Not only can you use iTunes but also programs like Keynote, Apple DVD Player, Mail, Powerpoint, Quicktime, Address Book and you can even control the mouse pointer with your mobile's joystick. Well worth the $19.95 for me. Here's the link for you to check if/when its been updated:

Thanks for your tip! I am now getting to grips with Remote Tunes and seems a nifty program to me. Still using the demo but once i'm used to it then will definitely pay the $15. Thanks again.

Thanks, but you're right Salling Clicker doesn't work with the K750i (yet). Have you had any problems using iSync with your new phone??

TO be honest i haven't used iSync with this phone. I used to use it with my T610i but i never needed to use it, but having said that i didn't have any problems with it.
