Possible to rollback graphics drivers to earlier version?

I know that the latest update to leopard has caused issues with several older games (notably starcraft, diablo, fallout 1 and 2), and that the problem is that this update removes 256 color mode support from the nvidia graphic drivers for MBP's.

Some people in other threads have reported being able to rollback their OS to the version prior to this update and are able to get the games running again. My question is, is it possible to rollback ONLY the graphic drivers to this previous version? I assume this would require extracting the associated driver files from the working version of os x and using them to overwrite the new ones, but I'm not sure if this would totally break the OS or not.

Anyone have any insight regarding this?
