Does anyone know if the Pinnacle MovieBox DV designed by F-A Porsche is compatible with the Mac Pro (early 2008) model, Leopard and Final Cut Express 4? Whenever I connect it through Firewire 400 on my Mac Pro, my apps (Final Cut Express, iMovie, Skype, and Photo Booth) hang (spinning beach ball). It works with my old Titanium PowerBook G4 667MHz and iMovie 5. The only way I can bring my old Hi8 video is to capture it in iMovie 5 on my TiBook, then copy the iMovie Project to my Mac Pro and open in Final Cut Express. Are there any other ways to streamline this workflow? Your comments are greatly appreciated.
MacPro (early 2008) 2.8 2GB, Mac Mini G4-1.42 1GB, and TiBook-667 768MB (10.3.9),
Mac OS X (10.5.3)
Looks like it exports in formats compatible with FCE. Make sure that's what you're doing.
What firewire port are you using on the MP? Some users have reported that connection problems are solved by hooking to FW port on the BACK of the tower.
I have used the MovieBox DV successfully with my iMac 2.4 GHz (late 2007) so I would have to guess that you will be able to hook this up to your Mac Pro. As far as I can tell though, there are issues with using the MovieBox with Final Cut. The only way I have had any success importing video is by using iMovie to import the video, then importing it into Final Cut and converting it (rendering? I don't remember what I did). Let me know if you have any success.
