    Seriously, what did they say?
    Add me to the list of people who have had this problem recently.
    You would have thought I would have learned my lesson the first time it happened, over a year ago.
    Several purchased songs just disappeared...Customer Service made an exception, and allowed me purchase again, with some wied credit system. I don't remember the details.

    I mean, how difficult is it, really? They have a list of our every purchase. The iTunes software creates a pre-made playlist of all the music it recognizes as "purchased" How about they just replace any songs that disappear, automatically?

    There is no way this isn't a side-effect of DRM. How about just making the whole store's catalogue into DRM-free, iTunes Plus, with higher data rates?

    Anyway, I'm too angry to call Customer Service right now! I want my Barry White back, G'dammmt!

    If some one finds a way to get back the music files in iTunes I would like to know. Please post. This question is not answered.

    I have the same problem. I did nothing except that once itunes opened when my external drive (where the itunes music file is) wasn't connect. Since, when I re-open it, all my files appear with an exclamation mark, even if the location of the itunes music folder is ok ! I would have to reload them one by would take years ! I don't want to re-import cuz it anyway my playlists wouldn't recognize my songs and I have worked for months on these.
    I tried to re-import the .xlm file but it changed nothing.

    Also, before this, I noticed that in newer itunes versions, itunes constantly lost the way to some music... But this time it's ALL the tracks ! Except a few ones which are in the same folder...Why this ? Very strange...

    Help us please if someone has the solution to this.

    I am searching old threads looking for how to fix. I had a problem once before with iTunes and some iTunes Wizard answered the thread and fixed the problem. I wanted to send him/her chocolate or something, but they were anonymous. Anyway, Oh iTunes Wizard ... please come help us again!

    Finally I found a program to get my iTunes music back to the computer. I had it on my iPod. I found a shareware called *Music Rescue*. The program was downloaded and I used it to copy the entire library back to iTunes. It worked and was very easy.

    Make sure that you do have the setting: Manually sync music so that the iPod contents are not erased by iTunes when you first connect the iPod.

    This is a shareware.

    There ar eseveral of these programs ( Transee. Touchcopy, etc). The problem is that many of us have only a portion of our music library on ipod and that is all that can be brought back to the computer and to itunes.

    I am new to the itunes store. I was very impressed with it until I started loosing songs that i had purchased the previous day. They disappeared from my 2nd generation ipod touch when I synced with my laptop. I then went looking for the songs in my library and they were gone. They are nowhere to be found in my music or itunes folder.

    Does anybody know what might have happened to these files?

    Obviously many people are experiencing this issue, so Apple needs to address it. The fact that they are not responding, at least publicly, makes me think that this is a bug they're hoping to downplay. I'm sure lots of people don't even notice that songs are randomly disappearing. If the problem got more press, there would be lots of unhappy folks demanding replacement downloads or refunds. Bad PR for Apple.

    i'm also having the same problem-- it was annoying but ok to re-import the songs i had off of cds, but i dont know how i'm going to get my purchased songs back.

    What happened to me is that since I've upgraded to iTunes 8 all my songs, tvshows and films introduced into iTunes before august 2007 are listed in my lists, but iTunes 8 isn't able to find them...

    For me are thousends of items that in case I might want to use should I tell iTunes ONE BY ONE where they are...

    I do really need another way to fix that!...

    This is how I resolved the really is simple and works. Go to MY Documents and in the file "my Music" you should have all of your songs that were on Itunes and are now 'lost'. ---- or they may be in another folder in "My Documents". Better yet is if you have a backup on an external hard drive; some that we should regularly do!!!
    NOW open Itunes and delete ALL of the music in your library. **Close and* reopen* iTunes. OPen the folder in my documents or the external drive tha contains all of the music files. Go to edit and "select ALL " Left click on any file and drag this to "Library " on Itunes.This will copy all of your music to the now empty file in Itunes. It is a simple fix and worked perfectly for me!!

    I just started noticing this tonight. Stuff i new I had has now gone? Sometimes just one or two tracks sometimes several tracks from an album have disappeared. Not showing in iTunes & not in the folders in the iTunes library when I go looking for them on my external drive where I run my library from. This is very annoying....Would love to see a fix for this as opposed to 'answered'............
