I've loaded a gigasampler instrument into EXS24. It did the conversion. The instrument is listed in my library. But when I load the instrument, I get no sound.
Other sounds (EXS, Logic, Garageband) play fine. But whenever I try the converted sample, nothing.
UPDATE: I've discovered that if I hit the edit key and the editor comes up, if I mouse click the editor keyboard, I get sound. But nothing from my real keyboard unless another, non-giga patch is loaded.
UPDATE TO UPDATE: It turns out that it's the giga instrument and not EXS. It's sampled by velocity levels and the sample I'd loaded was only one of the layers, requiring very strong hits on the keyboard.
So, the next question. Does anyone know how to layer velocity samples in EXS?
Not sure why imported giga samples wouldn't be layered automatically if its imported correctly. I've not tried it, though.
But, to manually layer velocity samples, go into the instrument editor, drag all the same-note velocity-layer samples onto the same key (range of one note), within the zone/group area, and they will "stack" above the same note on the keyboard. Then you can assign a velocity range for each sample within the zone. Split up the range of 0-127 between the number of samples on a given note. For details, read the section on the EXS24 Instrument Editor (pp 425-445 in the Instruments and Effects manual).
