Screen is too big

Periodically the display on my mac book is too big for the screen. It is not the zoom function and when I took it to the store they fixed it saying it WAS the zoom function (control + scroll). Today, it is again too big. my files are off to the right and I can't access them, when I try to move my mouse arrow over there the screen gets jittery and looks like it is racing. Going on line doesn't change the situation.

mac book, Mac OS X (10.5.3)

Hey tisinva and welcome to the forum -

If you hold down the control key and scroll up...it zooms in (gets bigger) ....and if you hold down control and scroll down...it zooms out (gets smaller and eventually back to normal).

If your problem is that the window size is too big for your display, click-hold and drag the bottom right corner of the window to re-size it. If you can't get to the bottom right corner, click-hold the taskbar of that window and move to the left until the bottom right corner is exposed.

Click the Apple Logo>Dock>Dock Preferences, and reduce the Dock Size.

Thanks for the advice, but it doesn't completely solve the problem. Moving the task bar to get to the bottom right helps, but the bar across the bottom that shows all the programs I use (don't know what it is called - the dock?) is still too big and my desktop display is huge. The control+scroll will make everything bigger, but no smaller. Very confusing.

When you move the mouse, does the whole screen move? Then press and hold the control key and scroll down all the way.

When you move the mouse and the screen doesn't move....you need to resize your windows and your dock.

Hi,

I noticed starting in OS 10.4.11, you can use two fingers on the track pad to scroll. If you hold the control key and use two fingers on the track pad, the display zooms in when you move your fingers toward the screen. The display zooms out when you move towards the keyboard edge. If you use a single finger, the display pans up/down-left/right if you have the display zoomed in.

You can control the behavior by opening system preferences, then click Keyboard & Mouse, then click Trackpad. Adjust the settings to suit your needs.

I think you may need to check your display resolution in your settings: goto System Preferences/ Displays..click the Display tab and on the left side under resolutions, make sure it's on 1280 x 800.
