Nikon Scan / Coolscan V ED

I'm purchasing a Nikon Coolscan V ED with the included software, Nikon Scan. Does anyone know if NIkon Scan is fully compatible with the latest version of Leopard? Are there any problems running on an intel-based Mac?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.5.3)

Non-Apple products are mentioned in relation to their interaction with a specific Apple product, such as when trying to import mail from Outlook or Entourage into Mail; other products are not discussed, since those topics are prohibited under the Terms of Use you agreed to when signing up and are deleted by the moderators.

If you don't feel that Nikon is trustworthy or that their web site is giving you accurate information, then perhaps you shouldn't buy it. Nikon knows their products and I'm sure they've tested them, so the decision is yours to make.

This isn't a Mail or Address Book question, so this isn't the best forum in which to address this. But this is what Nikon's support site says about Nikon Scan and Leopard:

"SUPERCOOLSCAN 9000 ED, SUPERCOOLSCAN 8000 ED, SUPERCOOLSCAN 5000 ED, SUPERCOOLSCAN 4000 ED, COOLSCAN V ED, COOLSCAN IV ED digital film scanners.

Our initial testing of Nikon Scan version 4.0.2 and all scanners listed above showed no problems. Preview, Edit, Scan, and Save operations were successful with both USB and Firewire devices. Installing the 4.0.0 full version, then the 4.0.2 update took a little longer than usual to complete, but there were no problems. Since there is an issue with the installer, Nikon Scan is not considered to be compatible with Mac OSX version 10.5. "

Nikon is notoriously slow to provide updates to their software, so if you encounter any problems, a fix in the new future is highly unlikely. In such a case, you might want to consider SilverFast or another scanning solution rather than use Nikon's software.

Regards.

From what I can tell, the latest Nikon Scan software does not work on Intel Macs. I had my Super Coolscan 5000 packed up from a move a couple years ago and just unpacked it and plugged it in. I probably only made 50 scans on it on an older PPC G4 I had at work. But no I have a Intel Mac. All I have are Intel macs. Not that my older little used unit should matter. Nikon still sells the same machine and software I got with it today.
Nikon has really really dropped the ball on this needed update. I also blame Apple for not getting on Nikon about this since Mac is the premiere media and imaging platform with Windows chipping away at that important market. I shoot digital now but have volumes of negatives and slides I still need to access and digitize (as do so many photographers and organizations).
So this IS the right place to ask this question because hardware, software, and operating system work in symbiotic relationships. None of us need a $1200 boat anchor Nikon! Apple, do something!
