In FCE or FCP (don't know about iMovie), double-click the clip to load it into the Viewer window then click on the Motion tab. Use the Rotate control to rotate the video any way you want.

I use Quicktime Pro to rotate movies that I capture with an upside-down recorder. Here are some instructions I found:

Thanks for that, it works a treat! Don't know why I didn't notice that option earlier - didn't need it earlier I guess so had a blind spot.
