check mark next to name

I know this might seem like a silly question, but i'm just confused. and perhaps this is not new to the new itunes version, but just noticed it. anyhow, when you're in the music library, what is the check mark box that is next to the name of each song? i know that in playlists, this is so you can easily identify what songs you might want burned to a disc or what not. anybody have a clue?? thanks!

Hi, Kimberly, welcome to Apple's user-to-user discussion forums.

The checkmarks mean the same thing in the Library and in playlists. These are the songs that will get played. Songs without the checkmark will not be played. As you mentioned, checkmarked songs in playlists are also the ones that will get burned to cd.

Command-Clicking in a checkmark box will either checkmark everything or clear all checkmarks, depending on the state of the box you clicked on.

You can also make a selection of songs, Control-Click on the selection, and choose Check (or Uncheck) Selection.

So you can use the checkmarks to control which songs you want to listen to either in a playlist or in the Library.
