Changing Permissions for Mounted Drive

I am trying to synch two external hard drives. Both mount, but the drive I want to back up to is allowing only read access. How do I change the permission for all mounted drives to read / write?

Thanks,

PowerBook G4, Mac OS X (10.4.11)

It was formatted as a Windows NT filesystem format because we have a couple of Windows machines that access the same drives. When I access the drive via the network, I can read / write, but when I mount the drive locally I am getting read only access. I had hoped that if there is a way to change permissions to read / write that would solve the issue.

i recently got a lacie external hard drive and set it up on a windows. i use windows mostly but work on macs with final cut. the lacie said read only when i tried to transfer files from a mac to windows. i want to be able to use both systems with the lacie.

so just dowloading the macfus and ntfs 3g onto the lacie hard drive should fix that? can i do it if i'm on a windows or do i need to do this through a mac or something? working on a pc, all i did was save the files onto the lacie hard drive.
