Shuffle mode isn't working

welcome to the Apple Discussions you say your shuffle mode is not working, do you mean the Party Shuffle or the shuffle feature available in playlists ?

Lionel's having the same problem that I am. It's the shuffle mode that can be turned off and on in the Controls menu (same as the second button from the right on the bottom).

I have found that with Shuffle on, it'll go eight or ten songs in a row, then skip to somewhere else in the playlist. Very aggravating, as, like Lionel, I use that mode a lot. (I have a smart playlist I call Daily Listen, which I like to turn on with Shuffle and I (USED TO) get a nice random mix of stuff.)

I called Apple Care, but we were unable to fix the problem.

I'm eagerly awaiting the fix for this...

I have the exact same problem!! I love shuffle - I use it always. Now after Apple integrated the "smart-shuffle" option into the release of iTunes 5, (i.e. "less random mode") I was a little upset after finding that now that iTunes 6 has been released, (and myself reluctantly downloading it) it now does not shuffle the songs individually. Now it DOES shuffle -HOWEVER- it will play all the songs made by the same artist - 1 by 1 - down the line - until it gets to the end of that current artist's ALBUM and THEN shuffles randomly to the next one. If I only have one track by the next artist - then yes, it will shuffle to the next artist - but if there are multiple tracks in the album, it won't go to another one - it will just play all of them until the Album is finished until going on to the next artist. In other words, NOT SHUFFLED!

ARRRGGGHHH!! I thought about my previous comment and discovered iTunes 6.0 defaults to shuffling by ALBUM! That's what the problem is. I changed this in iTunes Preferences (changed Shuffle Albums to Songs) and it fixed the issue. Fixed!

welcome to the Apple Discussions let me get this straight you are using a playlist and have the left-hand column selected and the preferences set for songs and the shuffle button only plays one artist before moving on to the next ?
