Is getting a co-signer possible?

I went to AT&T to see how much of a deposit I would have to pay in order to get an iPhone 3G. I was expecting one amount, and was willing to pay it, but turns out that I'd have to pay significantly more then that. More then I'm willing to pay at the moment.

The guy at the counter wasn't too sure if getting a cosigner was an option. Is it?

Thanks in advanced for any info.

I'm not sure if having a co-signer is possible, but having the account in someone else's name is possible, which is about the same thing for someone willing to be a co-signer since they are responsible for the account. Do you have a parent or relative that lives nearby? Since you can set up paperless billing, you would have access to the account online to pay the monthly bill. The problem with this is you aren't establishing a payment history with at&t in your name.

If you go the deposit route, the account and payment history is in your name, and the deposit will be refunded after a year of paying your monthly bill in full and on time.

Maybe you could borrow the deposit from a family member or from whoever would be willing to be a co-signer on your behalf. This way, the account and payment history is in your name, and you could pay the deposit back to the person that loans you the money over 6 months or something.
