MacBook make static sound

My macbook has started to make some static noice. its sounds like crackling. it comes and goes. volume control does not effect it, nor does an power settings. it just seems to come on every 5-10min and lasts for a few minutes. its faint.
does anyone else have same problem? any solutions? ideas?
