SAMSUNG Spinpoint 750 GB (HD753LJ)

I have an Imac 4,1 (early 2006) and just finished replacing the hard drive with a samsung spinpoint 750 GB but I have a problem. Every so often the hard drive seems to be unresponsive for 30-45 seconds, during that time I'm getting the beach ball and then it just continues. I'm not sure if the hard drive actually stops because it's so silent.

I've read about people having similar problems with the 1 TB model of the spinpoint and there seems to be a firmware solution but i can't find it. http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7304778&#7304778

Anyone any thoughts?

Cheers,
Karel

Having the same exact problem. It seems there are no jumper settings that could help with this, I am trying to install Boot Camp and then use the utility provided by Samsung to switch the SATA mode to I as this seems to be the root of the problem. It may be that the Spinpoint HDD simply is not compatible with the motherboard of this iMac revision 😟

Hopefully someone can help, or that my experiment through Boot Camp can access HDD settings and switch the drive to other SATA mode.

Ok, tried using the utility provided by Samsung. Ironically the iMac could boot from the disk and access HDD firmware, but iMac doesnt accept any input from usb keyboard when booted from the samsung repair cd (found from: http://www.samsung.com/global/business/hdd/faqView.do?b2bbbs_msgid=126&orderNum=2).

It seems the samsung repaid cd is missing drivers for usb keyboards, and I'm unable to type "run" and press enter to flash the drive.
