iMovie 6.0.3 to 6.0.4 with iMovie 08

Hi!
I have been using iMovie 06 for a couple of years and I LOVE it. I am hesitant to "upgrade" to iMovie 08 -- I didn't like what I saw when I looked at it in the store (why did they get rid of the fantastic timeline?!?!) and after reading these posts I realize that it basically a different and simplified program. I have iMovie HD 6.0.3. I understand that if do decide to install iMovie 08 that my current iMovie 06 is not removed and I can still use it and my Mac will not be confused -- is this correct? Does it just stay in my applications like it is now (it's not in an iLife folder)?

My next question is that if I install iMovie 08 -- do I want to upgrade my iMovie 6.0.3 to the 6.0.4 version I can get once I have iMovie 08 -- is it better to do this? Do i need to delete the old 6.0.3 before I install the 6.0.4 (if I actually want to do this? ) I actually have the 6.0.4 version downloaded on my desktop but not installed since I didn't install 08.

I am a little nervous about messing with it since for some reason I do not have the iMovie HD 6 discs. I had purchased iMovie 05 along time ago and I just do my software updates when my Mac tells me to and next thing I knew I have iMovie 06. I know, I know.... Apple did not do this upgrade but I have no explanation since I did not ever purchase iLife 06. So here I am with a version of iMovie06 that I do not have discs for and so I do not want to "mess" things up.

Thanks for your help -- I really appreciate the Discussions advice. You usually know more than the folks in the Apple Store -- and you are more candid! : )

Hello, Christine,
Yes, you can have the two versions of iMovie existing peacefully on the same computer. After installing iLife 08, you will find your iMovie 6 in a folder called 'iMovie Previous version,' in your Applications folder. It will still work just fine.
There is reportedly no difference between versions 6.0.3 and 6.0.4. The .4 version is a free download for those who get iLife 08 and did not have a prior version of iMovie at all.

You are not remembering correctly regarding your iMovie 6. The only way to get it is by purchasing iLife 6. You could not have upgraded from iMovie 5.

Hi, Bengt,
+I think there is a difference between 6.0.3 and 6.0.4. Had problems with 0.3 after+
+installing iLife08 that was OK after 6.0.4 up-grade. (PPC dG5)+

That's why I said 'reportedly.'

I think you are correct. I, too, am suspicious of a difference, and I also downloaded version 6.0.4. I did the download as soon as I saw it on Apple's site after getting my new iMac.
I did have the prior iM6 version that I ported over from my old iMac, too. I am sure that I transferred all my old stuff before downloading 6.0.4, but I didn't run into any problems with it not installing.

Regards,
Beverly
