How can I "ping" an IP address using a Mac?

I'm a new Apple user and have no idea how to "ping" and not sure where to find this out? I know how to use a prompt in Windows but not familiar with Apple - can someone point me in the right direction please - and thanks!

Hi

Couple of ways you can do this. Navigate to your Utilities folder /Applications/Utilities. In there you should Terminal. You can launch this and at the prompt type:

ping whateverIPaddressyouwant

Control+C will stop the ping. Also in the Utilities Folder you should see Network Utility. Launch that and I should not need to explain any further as it will be right in front of you.
