Just updated iTunes to version 7.7 and now, when I connect my iPod I just get the spinning beach ball... The iPod doesn't show up and thus cannot sync..!
What to do??
MacBook, iPod nano 2GB, iPod Touch 32 GB,
Mac OS X (10.4.11)
Mine is having issues as well. When I First connected the iPod Touch... it seemed like Windows was reinstalling it. Then when it finally was recognized in iTunes the capicatiy bar was all orange, meaning the content was Other, when it was supposed to be my music. Now when I hit sync, it tells me there is not enough memory to sync, it needs 4 GB, which is the amount om music I have. I don't know what to do.
Same here. I used to have to start iTunes manually when I would connect my iPod Touch. It now starts iTunes 7.7 for me but it takes a few minutes of SBOD before it is recognized. Not sure if it's linked but I see the "usbmuxd" process chugging away while this is happening.
Had a similar situation. Mac said that my ipod timed-out. I unchecked 'Open iTunes when this iPod is connected', disconnected the iPod, rechecked the option and reconnected the iPod ... all is well.
I'm having the same problem. The weirdest thing is that if I disconnect my ipod, itunes shows me what my ipod touch has on it but then the bar goes all orange when I plug it in again. Not good; it completely freezes.
Alright after writing this iTunes decided to go ahead and recognize my ipod, very odd. Guess I just had to wait a while...
WHEW! Glad I came to the boards. Sorry about all the trouble everyone is having. I downloaded the new iTunes but haven't connected my IPT to my computer. It looks like I had better not.
Wish Apple had given more of a heads up NOT to use your IPT.
I was having the same problem on Windows XP plus iTunes and the OS would not even recognize the iPod Touch when connected. I was able to fix it by disconnecting my iPod Touch and then selecting from the menu Edit --> Preferences --> Syncing and clicking on the Reset Sync History. I then reconnected the iPod Touch and it went through a complete sync. I have been able to disconnect and re-connect my iPod Touch with no problems.
Under Win VISTA my iTunes (7.7.0.43) totally freezes when I plug in my ipod Touch (but the PC doesn't crash). Under Win XP (same iTunes) this doesn't happen. Under Win XP I can download (for AUD12.99) the ipod Touch v2.0 Firmware and begin to install it. Under Win VISTA I can't (because the iTunes is totally frozen).
I'm pretty sure it's the Apple USB driver not working well with Win VISTA. Under Win VISTA, while my iTunes is frozen, if I go to device manager and uninstall the Apple USB driver that unfreezes my iTunes. Later, as I plug in my ipod Touch again Win VISTA reinstalls the Apple USB driver and then, once again, my iTunes freezes.
From the above behaviour I think it's Apple's USB driver interacting badly with Win VISTA.
i upgraded to 7.7 and itunes doesn't acknowledge my ipod touch. i'm not getting a spinning beach ball, no nothing. i hope this isn't a ploy to get me to buy that 2.0 software. please help
Same thing here. Upgraded to itunes 7.7 and my ipod touch does not appear. Not just that, but also the ITunes program goes into 'not responding' mode and freezes the program. When I disconnect the IPT, it goes back to normal. I am going nuts, wish someone will give us some answers
This is being discussed on a few threads. I use Vista. I upgraded to Itunes 7.7 and upgraded my 16gb touch to 2.0. I went through the hassle of reinstalling the new iTunes a couple of times and uninstalling when it wouldn't recognize my touch. Eventually I tried what I do when any program in Vista says "not responding". I wait till it responds. This is what you have to do in Itunes and the IPT for now evidently. Whenever I connect, Itunes appears to freeze and doesn't recognize the IPT. I wait. Within a few minutes, it eventually sees it and starts synching. I think this could be the Apple server backed up or a glich I hope they fix soon. By the way, you cant drag the new apps anywhere. You have to synch them. Monkeyball is great!
