Printing text on custom CD labels and inserts

What I need is a printer with keyboard and the ink to put text on custom labels and inserts, do they make a printer like that, if so what is it called?
Is anyone else having a problem printing text on their labels or CDs? I can't find any discussion here or on the web about it. Am I missing something everyone else knows or is anyone else having the same issue? I don't have photoshop or any the programs like that, I have iLife, and of course Text edit and Peview. Is there another program that came with my mac that I could be using? Please get back to me on this. Thanks, 'becca

Thanks to both of your for responding, but I am labeling and doing inserts already, I just cannot find a way to write over the top of the background photos. I bought two software products, Expressit for thirty dollars and one I don't remember the name of that was not compatible with Tiger so I took it back. I need another software just to use Express it, I think. NO way to use my own photographs, pretty useless to me, so I am making inserts and lables with iPhoto, and iTunes using printable labels and am very happy with the results, minus the missing Text, of course. I seriously wanted to know if there were a typewriter/inkjet printer so you could just type in a colored special-fonted text over any photograph, for say making cards or posters, whatever. God, I really don't want another software....but let me ask you this, would photoshop or one of the big painter programs like it be the one program that does it all? If I have to buy another software product, that's what I'm looking for, ONE software that does everything I want to do, but those products are too expensive if they don't do all of it, at least for my purposes. End of rant, thank God, sorry, but meanwhile I still need to put text on all these labels. Just me, myself, and iMac, 'becca

'becca, Photoshop is not designed to do what you want to do. What you want is software that is specifically designed for making CD jewel case inserts that you can print onto template paper.

Both apps that I suggested to you will allow you to drag and drop your images from iPhoto which you can then type text over. I do it all the time.

I highly recommend you download the trial version of Discus. It comes with several template background images, it is extremely easy to use, and it does exactly what you want. Let me give you an example. If you have a playlist of songs you want to make a label for you can use iTunes' export song list feature to export a plain text file. Then you can import that plain text file into a Discus project that you have customized by dragging and dropping your photos from iPhoto. It is all about using the right tool for the job.
