Why does Safari for Windows require "Windows Installer 3"?

I've successfully installed Firefox 3 & Opera 9.51 on an original release of WinXP Pro that does NOT have ANY Service Packs installed.

BUT, Safari for Windows v3.1.2 requires MS' "Windows Installer 3".

my question is, "why is it necessary for Safari but NOT for Firefox & Opera?"

No idea , ask Apple? I got Windows installer 4.5 installed, so i don't get these kind of problem when i want to install a new version of a program.

Just update to Win Installer 3.0 or 4.5 and you be fine.

And by the way, why don't you have SP3 or at least SP2,
it's a big security risk to NOT have none of them installed.

updating is the solution; but, it isn't answering the question.

I don't think they answer questions like this.

The Microsoft® Windows® Installer is an application installation and configuration service.

I think the better question is, why did Microsoft create this installer app? Other applications use it, besides Safari. Why, why, why?

Only Microsoft knows. I use the Installer too for some of my own apps.

install Safari on another PC and move the installed Safari directory to your PC.
install Visual c++ 2005 runtime library on your PC.
Safari should run (but it isn't stable on win2000 or winXP lower than SP2)

The answer is quite simple: Safari requires a system configuration of Windows XP SP2 or greater, and you don't have that. SP2 includes the Windows Installer 3.

Time to upgrade.
