You are assuming the advise did not fix the problem. Did it not work for you on your windows computer? The original poster did not respond back which may indicate that it is fixed or may not be. We will never know.

Go ahead and blast the responses but all the apple forums depend on people who find things out to share their knowledge. If the right person does not see a post, it may never be answered. Which leads to my second point

If you start your posts here blasting responses, well, I would not want to post anything since you will just blast me too. Hope you are able to see the logic in this, though I guess your response to this post will tell me if you have.

Do you by any chance have any sort of Logitech webcam on your computer? Because if you do, then you need to update the drivers of the webcam. Here are some Apple articles on the problem:

I had the same problem with a Logitech OrbiCam on my Acer 5601AWLMi, and the only way I could fix it was by totally uninstalling the OrbiCam software and drivers in Add/Remove Programs, so if nothing works, perhaps that's an option.

That's correct. Your computer must handle the iPhone as a camera device, as otherwise you couldn't use the Windows Scanner and Camera Wizard to download photos you've taken. The iPhone also is a camera on Mac OS X in iPhoto.

As mentioned, it is supposed to. Windows sees the camera part of the phone like any other digital camera. That is how you take pictures you took with it off.

Open iTunes and iTunes will see it as it really is (for syncing)

I've got the opposite problem.
On my XP machine, I can see the camera. On my vista machine, iPhone camera doesn't appear in windows explorer!! Any ideas? iTunes works fine, so the of can see it, just not the camera.

the solution is very simple. while your iphone is plugged into your pc right click on "My Computer" and choose open, you will then see the iphone under "scanners and cameras". right click on iphone and choose "properties" from the drop-down menu. once in "properties" click on the "events" tab and choose "take no action" out of the "actions" box. and that's it; problem solved 😀

I have a similar problem to this. My computer sees the iPhone as a camera but then after the little bubbles pop up in the bottom right-hand side of the screen telling me that new hardware is found, my computer shuts down/crashes. A blue screen pops up warning me my computer is shuting down that has all sorts of writing on it. When I first got the phone last week I didn't have any problem syncing the phone, now all of a sudden I do. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

This is the sympton I just fixed. After 5 months of sync'ing fine my iPhone 3G suddenly became recognized as a camera only in Windows XP. iTunes would not recognze it as a device, but my old iPod still worked fine in iTunes.
FIX: Make sure you have the driver: USBAAPL.SYS in c:/windows/system32/Drivers.
Then open My Computer and click Manage, then Device Manager. iPhone may be appearing under imaging devices, scanner or camera (you'll need to click the '+' to see which devices are under each). Once you find iPhone open it and determine if the driver USBAAPL.SYS is associated with it. If not, then direct Windows to search for a more suitable driver. Mine found the correct driver and automatically corrected it. The iPhone startng sync'ing before I could even close the window.
