I keep getting the error message that my Itunes Library file(Itunes Library.itl) is not a valid itunes library file and has been renamed to itunes library(damaged). How do I fix this? I don't think I can use an Itunes gift card because of this to purchase new songs.
Thanks for your post. The solution you posted worked but then I rebooted the computer and got the same error message. Itunes attemped to import the library file, it found it to be invalid and renamed it to damaged. How does rebooting damage the libarary file? I'm running the current version of Itunes. how is my computer corrupting the library file.
I've had this same problem for months now. I used <href="http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1275">msconfig to check for service conflicts as advised by Apple, and when everything is disabled on start-up, I do not have the problem. But the minute I start re-enabling services, I'm right back where I started.
Now I'm trying to figure out which background service is causing the conflict. It's fair to say that the whole thing is driving me crazy.
I think I have a damaged itunes music library.xml file. When I start Itunes, it states importing .xml file and then it tells me my library file is invalid. How do you repair an .xml file? Can I edit it?
It looks like the problem is a conflict with my AV software. I'm running Network Solutions VirusScan Enterprise 8.0.0 and disabling the software doesn't seem to matter, nor does flagging the two library files "no scan" help. I'm guessing, from the posts I've found about McAfee conflicts with iTunes, that I may have to change my AV software -- this is an old version of VirusScan Enterprise anyway.
If you run the MSCONFIG, it looks like the first services to check for conflicts are your AV software and whatever software your ISP loads for internet access.
I've googled all over to see if there's a quick fix to the conflict, but I haven't found it. I have no idea how my AV software is messing with my library files Every Single Time I re-boot. I've checked every log I can find....
I turned off my AV after deleting the .itl file and importing the .xml file and got the same problem. I don't think it's my AV. I turned it off, rebooted and it tried to import my .xml and then it said it's damaged. This is driving me crazy. How do I repair an xml file and why does it keep trying to import the library xml file when I reboot? Should I delete both the xml and itl file and manually import my songs into itunes? I'm sure I'm not the only one who has posted this problem. What's the fix?
I narrowed it down... it's if you disable Bonjour.
I don't want a program sharing my music and stuff, I don't want Bonjour running, I never said yes to installing it... And now disabling it makes Itunes and therefore my Ipod useless... Where can I find an older version of Itunes?
