"Could Not Be Restored - Unknown Error Occurred (2001)"

Could someone please help with this? I finally was able to download the 2.0 upgrade via the "Check for Updates" button in iTunes. It downloaded the update fine, backed up my phone fine, but when it attempted to restore the phone, this error came up; the only thing on my screen is a picture of the connector, an arrow above it pointing to the iTunes icon. Has anyone else had this error? Does anyone know of a fix, something I could do to try to get it to do what it didn't do properly the first time, or some other link that would be of assistance? Thanks.

The good news is the problem is not your phone or the software but Apple's Servers.I have your exact problem. The bad news is you won't be able to fix your situation until enough traffic is off of Apple's servers. Apple is not sure when these issues will be resolved. I actually got through to Apple tech support earlier today and was advised not to try to update my phone till Saturday or Sunday at the earliest. They were very, very apologetic but Apple took on to much by launching the new iPhone and 2.0 software update worldwide all on the same day.

The problem appears to have been fixed, sort of. iTunes downloaded 1.1.4 again, and attempted to restore from that. It got an error, so I looked up the phrase of the error message on Google, and got something from before this 2.0 fiasco started. I restarted my Mac, switched to a different USB port, and it's finally restored itself to 1.1.4. Now it's putting my music back on the phone, and my contacts were restored from the backup iTunes did before I attempted to upgrade to 2.0 I think at this point I'm just going to upgrade probably on Saturday night or Sunday, and hopefully have it work by then.

I was speaking with tech support today. The servers are flooded with users upgrading itunes to 7.7 & iphone to 2.0 software. I was getting the error messages: could not be restored - unknown error occurred (9) and also (13). I tried once again and either I was just lucky and got thru to the server or my recovery path really worked.

Here's what I did: I was able to restore by turning off the iPhone by holding the "Sleep/Wake" button for about five seconds. If your iPhone is already off, there's no need to turn it on and then off again. Once it's turned off, press and hold the "Home" button and plug the iPhone into your Mac or PC. Keep holding the "Home" button and it will show a dock cable pointing to the iTunes icon. You can now release the button.

Open iTunes (if it's not already open) and you will be told that "iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode". Click "OK" and you will be taken to the iPhone pane. Click restore and while restoring, do not touch any buttons until it's completed. Depending on the extent of your iPhone's ills, it may take some time to do a full restore. My iphone now works. I hope this helps.

I have the original iphone and after installing 2.0 software an error message came up -1426 unable to restore also a message stating that it could not be synced because the required file could not be found. I lost all my music playlists, my videos my iphone camera photos and my ring tones. Also I am not able to restore anything including playlists, photos videos and ringtones. Can anyone give me an idea of what happened?
