Preparing iPhone software for restore??? Upgrading to 2.0, How long?
I'm trying to update my 1st generation to 2.0 software (although I wish I'd read some posts before attempting this, but my mistake), anyway is this actually updating? It's been doing this for a long time now (over an hour).
I have a 8GB phone with around 4GB used.
MacBook Pro,
Mac OS X (10.5.4),
2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB
Hmmm. Mine hung on "Preparing iPhone for restore" for a long time also but not an hour. Don't remember exactly how many minutes. Probably about five to ten minutes but it eventually updated.
I'm now "Verifying iPhone software", so hopefully I'm heading in the right direction - for the record that was two hours on a couple month old MacBook Pro with nothing else running.
FWIW, about 10 minutes on "preparing for restore" for me. (6 GB used on an 8GB iP.)
From that point, here's a real-time log of my experience:
-----------
-Now "restoring" at a good clip... Almost done...
-Now "verifying". Taking what seems like a long time (~5 mins)...
-Now "restoring iP firmware"... (progress bar would be really helpful on these last 2 steps)... ~5 mins so far...
-Now "restoring to factory settings" -- yikes, hope it restores my data! This is scary $hit.
-Now "restoring from backup".... Okay...
-Now "Settings restored" -- iP has blacked out/restarted about 5X during last 2 steps.
-Now "restoring iP music and videos" (at a dead snail's pace). Crap, looks like maybe 30 mins ahead of me here... Yup, at least 30 mins into it, which seems excruciatingly slow... Done at ~ 45 mins.
-Syncing... Went quick as usual. DONE!
Looks fine, added app store and contacts WITH SEARCH (finally)...
Your post gives me some hope two hours after trying to download "Panora" in new 2.0 application. After unplug, "verifying software" for nine minutes (seems like hours)
