Same here with videos from Tubesock. Any ideas?

iTunes (at least the Mac version) has an option to convert a video to iPhone-compatible format.

Tried that, still no-go...

I was experiencing the same problem. I manually manage music & videos on my iPhone, so I had to re-load them after upgrading from 1.1.4 to 2.0. I'll confess that I was one of the "early adopters", who downloaded the 3G software the day before the additional 2.0 release. Here's what happened to me:

After reloading my songs and videos which were blown away by the upgrade (expected, no complaints there), everything was fine and they played perfectly -- as they had with 2.0.

On Friday, I read that the 2.0 software that I'd loaded was actually only for the 3G phone, not iPhone 1.0 -- so I did a "restore" using the firmware that I was supposed to have used all along.

This morning, NONE of the 10+ movies that I'd had on my iPhone will load to the phone; iTunes insists that they weren't copied because they were "not playable on this iPhone." I disconnected and went about my business. However, just now, I plugged my phone back in to get the exact text of the error message -- and found that the movies are now transferring just fine.

So there's something odd going on. Alas, I don't know what.

After upgrading to software 2.0. I'm having the same problem no movies or video will play. This is the first problem i had with any updates. some time video upload and the error "This movie format is no supported". or they just don't upload. Again they al played and sync fine before 2.0. Any help out there. Thanks

I got one to work. Mind you, this is ALL purchased TV shows form iTMS, but I got one to finally work.

I THINK this is what fixed it, cant guarantee, but give it a whirl.

1. Before connecting iPhone to iTunes. Hold home screen and power button until white apple appears (appears AFTER the shut down slide thing). Once it restarts connect to iTunes
2. Erase all video from your iPhone.
3. ReAuthorize your computer with iTMS (No Need to Deauthorize first)
4. Re-sync video

They should now work fingers crossed.

Sandy, thanks for the suggestion, but I followed it to no avail. Still no joy playing movies that 2 days ago played fine on my phone!

This is pretty aggravating. If anyone else has any suggestions I'm all ears.

OK, I think I have the problem figured out, if not the solution (at least in my case): iPhone will no longer play .mp4 formatted video, which most of mine is. My .m4v videos, however, all appear to play just fine.

So... Apple, is this just a big old snafu, or are you going to make us (re)convert ALL of our videos to .m4v format just to please some hidden agenda?

Wow, I'm so glad I looked at this thread. I have about 100 videos that I have created with TubeSock. Stuff to keep my toddler busy when we go out places and his attention span is stretched. I am eager to find out if I have to re-encode all of those or if this is just a bug (no, there aren't too many of those in the 2.0 release now are there...)

Maybe another useful bit of data. I installed 2.0 on my iPhone yesterday,
but have not yet upgraded by wife's iPod Touch. Videos converted to .mp4
via Nero Recode that were previously installed on both devices work fine
today. New .mp4 videos that I download to the iPhone don't work ("This movie
format is not supported"), but they do work on the Touch (1.1.4).

So, this is very likely caused by the 2.0 upgrade. And, the problem may be
introduced during the download to the device (though why the re-sync of the
previously installed videos during the 2.0 upgrade did not trigger the same
problem is a mystery).

In my case (iPod Touch, not iPhone), all videos stopped playing after the upgrade, so I am less lucky than you are ;-(
So far people just speak of "mp4", you are the first to mention Nero Recode. So who else is using this tool to convert the videos (I am)? I have sent a bug report to Nero, but have not heard yet of them.
I have had issues with my mp4s before, on Firmware 1.1.4: Sometimes, they took about 20 seconds to start playing, quite often they didn't start playing on the first try (I just got back to the movie list), but in all cases once they started playing they played flawlessly. So maybe there is something not quite right with the Nero Recoded mp4 files.

Whatever I tried, I couldn't get the Nero recoded files to play on firmware 2.0. So I just tried a different recoder (CloneDVD Mobile), and the resulting mp4 file plays just fine...
Now I am so looking forward to recoding 100 episodes of Seinfeld....

I have videos of TV programmes recorded using Elgato's EyeTV. These were then exported for iPhone and loaded into iTunes so I could sync them to my iPhone. They all worked perfectly before I upgraded to 2.0, now they won't play.

The files are MPEG-4, 128 kbps Bit Rate, Video size 640 x 360, Codec H.264.

This is really frustrating. I hope Apple comes up with an explanation & fix very soon!
