iTunes unable to verify Remote passcode

I'm so frustrated, hopefully someone can help. I have installed Remote and it instanty pops up as a device in iTunes. However, iTunes times out when I enter the passcode from my iPhone. I have not been able to get past the verification process. Any thoughts?

FIXED!
(Make sure you keep reading and don't skip stuff like I do. Even if it sounds like you've already done this... KEEP READING!)

Using:
iPhone 2.1
iTunes 8.0.0.35
Windows XP Pro
Here is what I did.

First of all, check to make sure you have actually done all the set-up stuff you have undoubtedly tried and has failed you:

1.check to make sure your phone is on the same network as your computer. In my case, both are connected wirelessly on my d-link router, but it will also work if your computer is connected wired while your phone is connected wirelessly so long as they are both connected via the same router.)

2.In iTunes, go to Edit->Preferences->Devices Tab. Check to see if "Look for iphone and ipod touch remotes" is checked. If not, check it. If so, uncheck it; click OK; go back in to that tab; re-check it; click OK.

From here it will require knowing a little about firewalls. I am using the default XP firewall. Here is what I did.

3.(Back to Windows now) Click Start->Control Panel. Open Windows Firewall, general tab will open by default. If you don't use your firewall and the "Off" radio button is selected, stop now because I can offer you no help. It is smart to use a firewall, so make sure "On" IS selected and "Don't Allow Exceptions" IS NOT selected. Click the exceptions tab. Make sure Bonjour and iTunes both have a check in the box next to them. SOMETHING NEW HERE... Click "Add Port". Name it iTunes TCP; Select the TCP radio button; add "3689" in the port number; press ok. Click "Add port" again. Name this one iTunes UDP; select the UDP radio button; add "5353" in the port number; press ok. Press OK on the Windows Firewall.

4. If your iPhone is connected to iTunes, disconnect it and close itunes.

5. Open the Remote program on your iPhone. Get to the passcode screen after add library.

6. Open itunes.

7. Make sure your phone is still on the Remote screen and connect your phone.

8. If you did this all right, you should see two icons under devices now in the sidebar.

9. Click the remote-lookin icon and punch in the 4-digit code.

10. BAM! Go to the other room and change the song cuz you're up and running boy.

The one problem I had in this whole process was having to restart itunes and remote on my iphone. I found that after I used remote and was idle for a while, I had to restart both itunes and remote. Well worth it though. I hope this helped. If not, I apologize, but if you keep tinkering, you'll get it. I did!

Hi, am having problems here.

I have my Iphone connected via my wireless router, my pC (running windows xp) is connected to the same router but using an ethernet connection.

I have the remote app downloaded, it produces the passcode but Itunes gives me no option to enter it.

I have disabled the firewall, enabled the specified ports, checked and unchecked the box in Itunes, but it STILL wont prompt me for a passcode.

I'm not techy minded enough to mess around with IP address's but should I have too? Is there anything I have missed or any advice please?

Thanks

Alright having the exact same problems here. I can enter the Remote Passcode easily enough, then BAM! thats the end of it and it prompts me to enter aother passcode for iPhone or iPod. I've tried the mentioned fix with the whole firewall thing and nothing. It does the exact same thing. Even when I completely removed the APP from my phone and my computer restarted both, nothing. Does this APP no longer work at all? What gives?

has anyone found a solution for this one? i already tried changing the properties of bonjour (through services.msc) from auto, auto (with delayed startup) and manual, same thing. i don't think it's somewhat connected to bonjour anyway, since i was able to use the remote app before i even installed bonjour. any suggestions?
