Visual voicemail on 3G problem

Not quite the same boat, but mine went away after upgrading to 2.0. I just called from another phone, left a message on my voicemail, and the visual voicemail appeared. Can't hurt to try that.

Try holding 1 when you bring up the keypad on your phone (which calls your voicemail), end the call, then try tapping the voicemail again. Or just try holding 1 to call voicemail then see what happens? If that fails call 611 and follow directions to where the section where it will help you with voicemail. Option 3 will tell you if you want to reset the password, do so and follow directions. Then try again to see if it works.

If this is a new phone you have to call 611 and select the option to change the password. They'll send you a text message with a temp password and at the same time enable the voicemail button. At that point you touch the voicemail button and enter the password they gave you at the voicemail screen.

On a new phone, if upgrading, or when using an old one on a new number, you have to do a new set up of your voice mailbox. From my upgrade iPhone 3G, a window came up automatically. After setting the password and selecting a message, visual voice mail worked fine. My wife got my old phone, and I had to get a new sim card from the AT&T store. After connecting to iTunes and setting up the phone with her number, I went to visual voice mail. Touching the icon did nothing, and no dialog box appeared. So I dialed her number from the iPhone, and it went right to her voice mail for set up. After setting the password, and a message, than the visual voice mail worked fine.

SeannX's suggestion worked for me. I couldn't get Visual Voicemail to do anything at all when I pushed the button, and I didn't really want to call AT&T. So from my iPhone, I called my own number, and it went right to the voicemail set up. I then set up my greeting and selected the other options and when I was done, Visual Voicemail worked perfectly.
