i actually went to the pasadena store today to get mine looked at and apple had to order one (16 white) since none were in stock. so now it's the waiting game. they were replacing someone's 8gb while i was there. i bought mine from ATT, so maybe the replacment procedures are different. in any case, it's been ordered and is due to be replaced.

So do you keep your phone till the replacement arrives? I was told they would exchange it but I'm not willing to stay without phone or risk a worst issue on exchange phone.

I had 2 stuck pixels on my first iPhone 3G. One was bright and almost in the center, the other was more dim, and towards the right side. I decided to send it in for replacement since there are no Apple stores in Arkansas (I would have to drive 2.5-3HRs the Memphis Apple Store). My old phone shipped out on Saturday, and I recieved the "new" replacement today. It's in a lot worse shape. FOUR stuck pixels, and some light bleeding through on the left side of the screen between the silver ring and seal. It looks like seconds to me. Do they use inferior phones for replacement? This is much worse than playing the lottery. I've already set up to have my 2nd phone replaced. I should get my empty box tomorrow, and of course live without my phone for a few more days. Not nice. Apple, where's the QC on these phones. And also, why the $30 non-refundable charge if you want to do an advanced replacement? I already paid for a "new" quality phone...

    What's an "advanced replacement?"
  • wrecked4 Level 1 Level 1 (35 points)
yeah, they let me keep my phone for the time being. the new phone is being shipped to the Apple store where i took my phone. the "repair" was set up as a "mail in repair" even though i am not mailing my phone to Apple. i assume that's the policy with those who bought at the ATT store. (?)

An "advanced replacement" is where they send you the replacement phone first, before you send the defective phone in.

I replaced mine's swiftly at Apple store in SoCal I wont say which considering the Genius Bar tech who did the exchange said, they could not discuss the issue with me or even confirm it was a defect and when I refered him to this board he said apple does not agree or consider in anyway what is said here in these very forums and then he said I COULD NOT exchange my phone again if I felt it had a so called speck on screen, luckly it did not, but this guy rubbed me the wrong way. I really dont know how much he said was him mouthing off or really apple policy.

    howdy everyone...

just picked up my replacement tonight at apple store in pasadena and all seems ok. phone was ordered on a saturday and arrived on a tuesday (16gb white), 3 days later, and the swap went great. thanks to apple store for the easy transaction.

I did the very same thing and a few days later found another dead pixel so I wouldnt hold my breath if I was you. I've given up on thinking that it was an isolated case, I'm waiting now on the nexr gen iphone to see if hopefully they get this right.
