Apps won't open

I downloaded some apps to use with the 2.0 update on my new iPhone 3G. The problem is when I click an app to use it, it will act like it is opening, hang for a second, then go back to my home screen. Anybody else experiencing this or know a solution?

Yeah, i'm in Tokyo and I just got it, one of the first off the line. got some apps loaded, and not 16 hours into using my phone (only 9 minutes of call time and about 30 minutes of wifi surf from my house, my whole phone crashed. after that, none of the apps i downloaded, free or the ones i paid for, would open. i reloaded one the free ones after deleting it and it opened fine of course, but the others still wouldnt open. i waited a day and now they open fine. i'm just waiting for it to happen again though. its crashed twice on me and given me the silver apple (iPhone version of the bluescreen?)

Fine. I add another evidence for the fault. Todays history:

-yesterday evening: everything worked fine
-this morning: unplugged from iTunes, no downloaded Apps worked.
-deleted and reinstalled Apple Remote, all Apps worked again
-around noon (no computer connection in the meantime): a few apps stopped working again

No idea what the problem is, but I definitely have it.

No, it's definitely not just Mobile me. I don't have that and the problem has happened a couple of times. I just had the issues again this morning. I synced my iphone last night, went to bed, then this morning all my 3rd party apps are crashing again. ReQall was the first one I tried to use. I don't think it's the app in particular, I think it has something to do with ReQall being an app I used before syncing, or that it was the first app I loaded after syncing.

I'm going to reload ReQall and see if it breaks the other apps.

I think what's happening is the first app you open after the iPhone breaks the apps will crash, and every one after it will crash. Then when you reload one app, it will stop future apps from crashing, but you might have to reload every app that crashed before you decided to reload one of them.

If that's the case, the temporary fix would be to, as soon as you notice an app crash on boot, reload it, avoiding corrupting other apps.

same problem here. every couple of days the apps will start loading. if I delete one (doesn't matter which) and then re-install it, they will all start loading again.

rebooting doesn't help.

Has nothing to do with sync'ing because the problem always occur long after I've sync'd.

Just a guess, but it seems like if an app doesn't close down cleanly it ties up some resource that they all need and then none will load.

(Long post but I hope to explain it in detail to maybe help others.)

I had this same problem last night. My iPhone 3g (with the supplied operating system, no upgrades or tampering) was working fine but after a sync/backup all my downloaded apps would not work. All the built-in apps worked fine but everything I had downloaded would not run - they start for a second (ie. the loading screen) and then drop back to the iPhone menu. This was tested individually for every app I had installed (Aurora Feint, Bejeweled 2, Cube Runner, Enigmo, iBeer, iPint, Midomi, Moonlight Mahjong, PhoneSaber and SplashID.)

I tried a full power off/on several times to no avail, even waiting overnight before trying again. (To perform a full power off hold the top power button for several seconds then swipe the red Power Off bar that appears.)

I then wanted to delete an app as mentioned here but couldn't as I'd never got apps to sync. I investigated how to do this (as it's not as obvious as syncing music/photos/calendar etc) and performed "Authorize computer" (in the Store menu) on my iTunes and then ran "Transfer Purchases from xx's iPhone" in the File menu. All my apps then appeared in iTunes in the applications section of my phone.

I then felt safe to delete an app from the iPhone so I picked on Bejeweled 2 and removed it. (To do this hold down any icon until they all start to wobble and then click the red X.) My iPhone was actually still docked and after forcing a sync the application did not re-appear. I unplugged the iPhone, plugged it back in and upon this auto-sync the application was automatically reinstalled.

Wonders of wonders, every single app now worked again.

It's a pain, and will no doubt be fixed, but that's a simple solution for now.

I recommend choosing an app to remove/reinstall that does not save any settings - perhaps a gimmicky thing like iBeer because I did lose my saved settings for Bejeweled.

Hope this helps someone.
