EXIF GPS data incorrect for southern hemisphere

After capturing some test images with GPS (in Australia), I noticed the co-ordinate data is incorrectly stored as Latitude N, Longitude W (instead of Latitude S, Longitude E).

I have both those same experiences.

1. A new photo taken tonight still imports into iPhoto and shows the wrong tags. NW instead of SE.

AND

2. iPhoto in Finder says 7.1.3 but the About iPhoto in the iPhoto app says 7.1.4 is the version.

:S

Thanks, njamnjamnjam, for pointing out that it seems to be an iPhone issue.

I also want to remind people, once again, that the topic says "EXIF GPS data incorrect for southern hemisphere." Please note that is the SOUTHERN hemisphere.

Guess we still await an iPhone software upgrade.

Here in Tokyo, N+E, Photos taken in the city shows pacific oacean far from the West Cost of the USA, too! I found this problem a few days ago, now came here...

I wonder if southern hem. case is OK or not, and unfortunately I found it's not now...

I got photos from iPhone 3G by Image Capture.
I tried to place the position on GoogleEarth both by Preview or GraphicConverter. Both applications show me the same wrong result.

EXIF protocol, position data are stored positive integer (type LONG, in its term, not SLONG which means signed LONG), so W/E or N/S sign is very important. I strongly doubt that iPhone 3G GPS tagging bug

The data supplied by the GPS on the iPhone 3G is correct, as several applications using them (Google Map, Here I Am, etc...) show accurate information.
It seems the only problem lies in the photo geotagging feature. While the absolute values are correct, the coordinates always show West and North, which means only 25% of the earth area is covered.
The bug must be in the iPhone itself and not in the software on the computer, as I am using GeoSetter in Windows Vista and it behave the same as what has been reported about iPhoto.
It looks like the feature has only been tested in North America.
Since it hasn't been corrected in version 2.0.1, I hope a 2.0.2 will be released soon.

I also live in Japan and my photos appear in the Pacific. The coords are perfect, except that it's showing W when it should be E.
I import my photos from my iphone into iphoto, I don't edit the photo at all, I right click to see the original file and I check the geotag data (with preview-tools-inspector). The coordinates I see here are the same whether I am looking at the original file or a copy dragged from iphoto to the desktop.

I copy those coordinates from the preview inspector and put them into google maps and it takes me to the middle of the pacific. If I change W to E it takes me to the place the photo was actually taken.

So the coordinates are mangled as soon as they are synced to iPhoto, OR when they are taken with the iPhone.

I have 2 questions:

1. Can the Geotagging work without Wifi Signals and phone coverage, If for example I am going to ocean fishing, can I snap and record the Coordinate, so that next time I can come back to the same location. can I do that without phone coverage and wifi?

2. About the buggy Geotagging feature, for those pictures that taken from problematic area, can we edit the Geo tags info of the photo as work around till Apple fix this? If can how we do that?

YES. I geotagged some photos the past weeks in the Austrian alps, far away from any coverage. Unfortunately, due to the geotagging bug, the photos appear to be taken in the in the Atlantic Ocean when I try to link them to a map 8-(
So your ocean fishing pictures may well end up on some mounatin range 8-)

But at least the needles that I dropped in Google Maps are placed correctly.
