-1426 Error

I went did not have any problem performing the software update however when the phone tried to restore my setting I received the -1426 error, it indicates that a required file is missing.

My phone works except I cannot sync my music and photos. It tries to finish the restore process every time I connect the phone, but always the same error.

Please help

I was having the similar problem. However, after another attempt connecting. iTunes gave me the opportunity to transfer my new "application" purchases from my iPhone to my computer. Than it gave me an opportunity to set up iPhone as a new iPhone or restore from a previous backup. I did the restore from the previous backup and I still got errors.

I disconnected and reconnected and it gave me the opportunity to "restore a backup" that was interrupted during the installation process, "cancel" or "delete the back up". I chose to "continue with the restore" and got the same errors telling me that the required file could not be found. However, afterwards it gave an opportunity to set up my iphone as new again or restore from a backup that occurred today.

Before restoring, I went to the applications tab, selected sync all applications, and hit apply. It rebooted my iphone and again gave me an opportunity to restore a backup that was interrupted during the installation process. However, this time I chose the option to "delete the backup" instead of "continue to restore". I HAD ALREADY VERIFIED THAT EVERYTHING WAS BACK ON MY IPHONE PRIOR TO DELETING THAT BACKUP (however music, photos, and movies were not, but I new I could add them on later once I was able to sync again).

Afterwards, it began to sync, this time adding the music, photos, and movies that I had on before the 2.0 update.

I guess the trick was to to delete the backup that was interrupted during the installation process instead of clicking to "continue with restore". *However, I caution to make sure you have all of the info on your iPhone that you need if it is not available on your computer before you delete a backup, for example, your text messages.*

Now everything works, including Holdem, which was not working before.

Thats helpful. I tried two things - one of which worked. I downloaded a free app to the phone - and then got a prompt screen to sync apps back to itunes which I did. At the same time I noticed only the camera roll photos were present - not the iphoto slected albums so went in and clicked to apply. Now it is syncing all my music and movies too ?!

Glad it is working for you.

I am assuming downloading Apps prior to the 2.0 installation caused the error of not able to find the file or the problems with the backup.

I also noticed that once I began to sync "All" the applications I downloaded after clicking apply, things started to get back to normal.

To those of you who clicked "Delete Backup": Are you getting any more errors like -1426 or "The file cannot be found"? I am afraid that after I delete the backup, my syncing will still be screwed up because it doesn't know which iPhone it is.

Also, does anyone know if clicking "Set up as a new iPhone" instead of "Restore the contents of this iPhone from <<backup name>>" on the white screen does the same as clicking "Delete backup" on the dialog box? Sometimes I get the dialog box and sometimes I get a white screen from iTunes with the above two options but sometimes I just get a dialog asking about whether to restore. Here is a pic of the white screen: link

Right now it synced contacts, mail settings, the web apps that were on my Home screen, text messages, Safari stuff..basically everything but photos, notes, videos, and music. Is my best bet to just delete the backup and do these manually? That won't erase my iPhone will it? I want to keep the texts and I'd like to have the notes that are supposedly in the backup file.

OK

This morning, with a fresh mind, I was able to everything to synch. Here is what I did:

1. Before connecting my phone I opened iTunes.
2. Select Preferences from the iTunes menu.
3. Select Synching in the Preferences window. This will show all of the backups, in my case there were three one from the start of the 2.0 upgrade process and the other two from sometime later.
4. I delete the two backups leaving the one from the start of upgrade.

Once I did these step the phone restored and all my media started to synch. By the way I had tried to restore from the back up previously but it didn't work until I deleted the two other backs mentioned above.

Hope this helps.

"To those of you who clicked "Delete Backup": Are you getting any more errors like -1426 or "The file cannot be found"?"

No

"Also, does anyone know if clicking "Set up as a new iPhone" instead of "Restore the contents of this iPhone from <<backup name>>" on the white screen does the same as clicking "Delete backup" on the dialog box? "

*I don't know. I chose "Restore the contents of this iPhone from backup name"*

"Sometimes I get the dialog box and sometimes I get a white screen from iTunes with the above two options but sometimes I just get a dialog asking about whether to restore"

*When I got the white screen, I chose "Restore the contents of this iPhone from backup name". Afterwards it rebooted the iPod and that is when I I got the option to restore, cancel or delete the backup. I chose to delete it.*

"Right now it synced contacts, mail settings, the web apps that were on my Home screen, text messages, Safari stuff..basically everything but photos, notes, videos, and music."

*My notes were synced on the iPhone before I deleted the backup.*

"Is my best bet to just delete the backup and do these manually?"

*Once I deleted the backup the way I explained it, iTunes started to work as normal.*

"That won't erase my iPhone will it?"
*Your backup is on your computer, not on your iPhone.*

"I want to keep the texts and I'd like to have the notes that are supposedly in the backup file."
*Make sure they are on your iPhone before you delete the backup. Mine were so I was okay.*

jjay91 - YOU DA MAN/WOMAN/PERSON!

Got the -1426. Frustrated, I searched the discussions. Yours is the first answer that came up.

Deleted the backup, next sync was smooth as silk.

I didn't do the "restore as new" but chose my iphones name in the drop down.

Works as you said it would.

GREAT HELP!

BTW - Someone mentioned this might have happened if you downloaded apps from the App store before you upgraded to 2.0. That exactly what I did.

Thanks.

Mike
