itunes 5.1 won't burn mp3 to audio cd

Since upgrading to 5.1 I can't burn audio cd's from mp3 files anymore. Not just in itunes, but in RecordNow as well. All my music in itunes are mp3's and it was never a problem before to burn them into an audio file. In RecordNow I can still make data cd's and burn directly from cd to cd, but it also doesn't let me burn from mp3 to audio anymore. It seems that itunes 5.1 placed something in the registry that blocks converting mp3 to .wav. Does anyone know anything about this? The 5.1 upgrade has made my computer useless and Apple isn't saying anything about this at all.

No, haven't tried that. I know I can convert the mp3 files to wav via some other software, but why go through all the extra trouble?. iTunes never had a problem burning cd's from mp3 to wav before the upgrade. The thing that troubles me is that has also affected my Record Now software to where it also doesn't burn mp3's to wav. This makes me believe that the latest upgrade created a serious conflict in my registry and I'm wondering if apple is doing anything to fix it.

have you submitted any CD diagnostics to Apple yet, Michael?

have you been able to find any troubleshooting information on the topic at the RecordNow-related websites? (googles on combinations of "RecordNow", "itunes" and "error" might pick up some independent troubleshooting, too.)

if you find any useful references, would you mind reporting back with links for us? if it really is a conflict between your version of RecordNow and itunes 5.0.x, other people will presumably be in your situation, and any information you turn up could be helpful for them too.

I sent my cd diagnostics to Apple as soon as I downloaded 5.0 since that's when the problems started. 5.0.1 hasn't solved a thing for me. Everything was fine with 4.9, so it's not something on my end. A couple of years ago I had a problem burning in Roxio after I upgraded to the latest version of Windows media. I ended up dumping Winmedia and everything worked fine again. Figuring this would work with itunes as well, I dumped 5.0.1 and went back to 4.9 but to no avail. I still can't burn an audio cd from mp3 files in both itunes and recordnow.

Makes me believe that it's more than just a driver conflict. There have to be some registry settings that are messed up.

Any thoughts?

Converted mp3's to wav in db music converter then tried to burn a cd with the wav files in Record Now, Windows Media Player and iTunes and non of them would burn.

So the only thing I can burn is from cd to cd and data files, but any type of music file is not going to burn.

Thanks for the awesome upgrade Apple! I hope someone at Apple is working on this 24/7??????

hi Michael!

A couple of years ago I had a problem burning in Roxio after I upgraded to the latest version of Windows media.

which version of Roxio is that, Michael? can you check the "about" screen for the precise version number for us?

(roxio and itunes registry settings don't get on well with each other sometimes, especially after one or the other of the two is uninstalled. an itunes upgrade often kicks this into high gear due to the uninstall of the previous version of itunes. you don't have classic symptoms of this (CD drives appearing or disappearing after an install), but we should probably check.)

We are having same problem except so far it is possible to burn using RecordNow. But we don't understand how to move music purchased in itunes to recordnow or even how to use the recordnow properly at all. If we could do this we could at least still burn cd's but really we want to be able to burn through itunes like we always did.

Do you know if it helps to get rid of all the itunes files and download the original disc that came with the ipod again? And if you do that is there a way to save the library and not destroy everything in the ipod itself?
