iPhone 3G bluetooth echo?

Hi --

I had a 1st gen iPhone (1.1.4) that I would pair with my BMW, worked great. Yesterday I bought an iPhone 3G. I can still pair it with my car, but now all of my conversations have a terrible echo. It's impossible to talk to anyone - we both hear a delayed echo of my voice. What is causing this? Is it software? Is it my phone that is a dud? Is the bluetooth in the new iPhone substandard?

Thanks.

It has OEM Bluetooth. I had an original iPhone and it worked perfectly. I unpaired the old phone, paired the 3G phone and I can hear my voice echo during a conversation. The other end doesn't hear the echo, but it is annoying.

Come on Apple. Be sure to get this fix in the next update. I sometime hold conference calls while on the road.

FYI - Yesterday I updated my 4GB iPhone to 2.0, and the BT still worked fine. Is there a new BT chipset in the 3G?

I'm also having this problem with my 3G iPhone. As a BMW Center Employee I can tell the problem seems to be widespread as I've paired my phone with both a new 3 series and a 6 series. Both cars had the same issue as well as two client with their 3G iPhones and their BMW's.

I hope this is resolved VERY soon.

Just as a test, I went through the hassle of swapping my SIM card in my 3G iPhone back to my 1st Gen iPhone and doing the 2.0 upgrade on it. And after having to activate the old phone again (and agree to a "new" 2-year extension - does that mean if someone buys a 2nd hand iPhone they have to commit to new service even if they already had a contract?!) I had to wait for everything to shake out with AT&T. Then I tried the 1st Gen iPhone with 2.0 in the BMW. No echo. It's definitely the 3G phone. Hopefully it's a firmware fix? Please?

The 3G is my first IPhone. Talking in my BMW was the only way I could stand using the Razr. The sound was beautiful and clear.

Yesterday the ATT guy who used to work at BMW paired my IPhone for me. My voice echos throughout the car when I speak. I searched through the phone and the IDrive for a sound source setting to see what might be causing the feedback. I haven't found anything so far.

I haven't tried muting the phone to see if that fixes it.

Well it appears the following vehicles have BT echo problems:

-Various BMWs
-2008 Nissan Rogue
-2008 Nissan Altima
-2008 Toyota Tundra

Apple sent the iPhone days in advance to 3 of their favorite reviewers and sure enough, one of them also noted the problem.

Mossberg concurs, but complains that "the new phone produced an echo when used with the built-in Bluetooth system in my car."

I imagine it's on Apple's list of iPhone to do's.

so i have a 2008 BMW 5-series and prior to getting the iPhone 3g I had a blackberry with no echos at all. Now its unbelievable.

I thought it might have been something with my BMW car kit, but it seems like alot of you guys have the same problem.

Do you know what I should do? Does Apple make an update or do I have to return my phone? I would hate to do that because I love the phone just these annoying echos.

Add the Infiniti G37S w/nav to the list. There may be a difference in the bluetooth implementations between the nav/non-nav models, so please specify whether your car has/doesn't have it.

One way I found to get rid of the echo is to transfer to phone, then back to the car. Sound is loud and clear afterwards.

I also found it to be happening the majority of the time, but NOT EVERY TIME, which is weird to say the least. I'll experiment with different locations in the car where I keep it to see if it helps any.

Apple better come up with a fix for this, because I need to use the handsfree, and it's a lot easier to change my iPhone for something instead of my car.
