Why is iPhone backing up everytime I sync now?

Does anyone else have this going on? Maybe I missed the thread.

I'm seeing the same thing. Before it reaches the various cycles of "syncing..." it goes through a somewhat prolonged "Backing up..." process that extends the entire process. I've gone through that cycle completely several times and it has yet to disappear. Is this a new "feature" and if so, is there an option to shut it off? On the surface it would seem to denote something beyond the sync with iTunes. Any additional input would be greatly appreciated!

Mine's doing the same too. A good couple of minutes each time I sync is spent 'backing up'. The only thing I can think of is perhaps personal data in downloaded apps is embedded into the app package file itself, such as highest score in a game, so it backs up the entire app file every time.

Would someone be able to elaborate?

It hardly makes it unusable, but it is a PITA.

Me too; it spends over 15 minutes taking back-up everytime I dock, followed by sync'ing music/calendar/photos/applications - actual sync is pretty quick as there's not much change on iTunes, but the back-up prior to that is what killing me. Never had this issue on 1.1.4.

Appears like a bug in 2.0 to me. Even when I haven't executed any app on iphone(meaning there can't possibly more data generated on iphone) since the previous back-up, it still backs up. Take the phone off the dock, dock back, it repeats the same annoying thing - pure waste of my time.

I unhooked the dock from USB and hooked to wall-charger directly to avoid this for now.
