Volume changes on its own?

Does anyone else have a problem with the volume changing sporadically? I can't figure out what I'm doing that's causing it, but I'll set the volume to 100% and I'll check it later in General > Sounds and it'll be down to about 20%. Happens quite a bit, and for no good reason. Anyone else?

Anyone? It happens to me multiple times a day and just want to know if I'm alone (which I'll try and fix with a complete restore...). Obviously, I'd rather not do a restore on my phone (it takes 30 minutes or so) unless I absolutely have to.

Try this. Do a restore in iTunes to a factory fresh state. Then, when iTunes asks if you want to restore from a backup, or set up as a new phone, choose "new phone." Your phone will then have no music on it or anything else. Then do a "sync." Now your phone will have all your music/photos/email accounts, but the phone's settings will be lost (i.e. what ringtone you had set, etc.)

Doing the above has helped solve a LOT of weirdness. One fellow mentioned he had sound coming from youtube and the iPod, but never got an sounds from SMS notifications or keyboard clicks. Doing the "set up as new phone" fixed that for him. I could not get on an WiFi networks. I could see them, but never get an IP. Doing the above fixed my weirdness too.

I wouldn't do the restore bit. I started another thread with other posts indicating the same problem. It completely varies but the volume almost always changes after taking or making a call. I normally have the slider set over to max, after these incidents I see that it's reset itself to about 2/3 the way over. My wife is using my original iphone which never had this problem but does now after the 2.0 software. Because of another issue I did a restore and resync with that phone but the problem persists. It's got to be a bug in the 2.0 software. Don't go messing too much with your phone or other problems may arise. Hopefully there will be a fix released soon.

I believe everyone with this software has the issue but many will not have noticed yet.

yes...samething happens with my 8gb iphone 3g. I slide the ringer to max and after sometime it comes down in the center about 50%. Also I noticed when I play the ipod and I lower the volume and then go to settings>sounds the ringer slidee also decreases. Is this normal when you are playing the music and you lower the volume the ringer should also slide? I had the previous iphone also, but I am not sure if this thing was present in it. I am thinking of going to Apple store and check the demo models for this issue. Any suggestions ? Thanks.

I'm sorry but I have to completely disagree with you on this point. There is nothing to be lost by doing an Apple recommended repair technique, and everything to gain. Doing a full "restore" in iTunes and then not restoring a previous back up, but instead using "sync" has fixed a myriad of problems (as chronicled by this forum as well as the HowardForums).

I hope Dustin goes ahead and tries it out. Check out a thread I've been maintaining at HoFo ( http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1398763&page=2&pp=15 ), you'll see that a restore and sync is responsible for fixing issues that range from sound problems to WiFi connection issues. And at the end of the day, if it doesn't solve his issue it certainly won't make it worse.

And I appreciate that you did a restore and sync on your phone and it didn't solve the issue, but as long as he's looking for a solution, if Dustin hasn't tried it for himself it's something to tick off the list.
