I can't get a message alert sound. All other sounds are fine. I don't use Loopt or AIM. In addition to this, my phone doesn't vibrate, whether in normal mode or in silent mode.
I am having this issue as well. I have reset the phone no helps. I have restored no helps. I don't use loopt so I know thats not the problem. Any other Ideas?? Do I call apple or just go into the store where I bought the device?
It is definitely a software update that is going to fix this..i stopped using loopt and my text sounds stop working..then suddenly start working again..its soo random
until we see a new software update, i guess well have to put up with this...
Same problem here, but mine just started doing this yesterday. I don't use any messaging apps. I think Apple would have had enough time to work on this by now. From the dates of most of the posts it's been happening since two days after release. Though there are lots of problems that seem to be happening with the OS on both generations of the Iphone. I just wouldn't have expected this many problems from an Apple product.
I uninstalled Loopt and my problem went away, and has been working perfectly since. my last post many hours ago. I'd say almost four hours. I have done a hard restart and have synced and backed up since the Loopt app deletion and the issue has not returned.
I went to the Loopt website they have an email account set up for feed back. I suggest anyone suffering form this issue uninstall the app. Then if your sounds begin to work properly like mine did send them a message telling them of the issue. If enough people tell them they will be more likely to fix the bug sooner.
Apple support as of today claims to be unaware of the issue. Had me reset my phone and claimed something "must have been wrong" with my settings. I pointed them to the forums. This is obviously an issue with these phones.
This has been happening to me since the day after launch i have tried resets restores and power cycless and it still happens. I dont even know what loopt is so its not that causing it but rather a OS string in my opinion. It has happened to mne at intervals ranging from a day and a half to 3 minutes after a power cycle. Its just a random bug in the OS. Apple is lying when they say they are unaware of the problem because i have emailed them about it and im sure im not the only one.
I had this problem and I posted way back in this discussion, I also had absolutely no vibrate and I posted on the ongoing discussion about that. It seems these are two major issues and the cause of both seems unknown. I dies couple of resets and a full re-install and the message tone problem seemed resolved, but I still had no vibrate. I took my phone back to the Apple store and showed them there was no vibrate. They accepted this after double checking the settings and exchanged my phone for a new one there and then. I suggest that if your iPhone isn't operating 100% as it should be, you exchange it, it worked for me, my new iPhone has no issues.
Add another one, or three (my brother's and Fiance's iPhones also) that do not get a sound for an incoming text message. It only vibrates. A hard reboot temporarily fixes it, but soon it just goes back to nothing.
