I used to be able to burn cds when I first got itunes but they sounded like old records. Since I've upgraded I get "Error 4450 unknown error" and I get nothing just dead CDs. The CD diagnostics gives me some garbage about "Dell" computer problems and I have an "emachines" I have upgraded EVERYTHING I am running "windows XP service pack 2" and have upgraded the drivers for every piece of hardware in the machine. I can burn CDs with any other program but. since itunes protects their ACC's I have about a hundred dollars wasted in albums I've bought that I can't get out of my computer to play anywhere else. I've been very patient waiting always for the next upgrade and it has been almost a year and I still can't burn CDs.

I'm getting the same message (and sometimes another one, #4280) and I operate on a Dell, too. Dell is unable to help as it is not software that comes with the system. Apple/iTunes email support has not answered back yet either. Can't burn through any other system (i.e., Media Player) because MP4 format is not recognized. Catch 22. Why do I get the feeling that we are all somehow being punished for Bill Gates & Steve Jobs irreconcilable differences? iPods (and thus the software that supports them) aren't going anywhere and obviously neither is Microsoft. They need to make these things user friendly and therefore compatable.
Hey Bryan,
I've been getting the same Error (4450 & 4280)for the last two months. After reading all of the discussion threads I did two things...slowed my burn rate to 12x...but more importantly, ditched the Sony CD-Audio disks I was using and went to a different brand (generic Staples CD-Rs). That seemed to be the biggest problem. Ever since I upgraded to iTunes 5.0 (and up), the Sony disks did not work...but a different brand did. That's just my story...I read about a lot of people trying a bunch of different things. But very few real solutions...give this a try. Good luck.

I am now having the same problem - as soon as I upgraded to this 6.0 version. My difference is the program lets me burn two songs on the disc and then decides it doesn't like the cd. And gives me the 4450 error. I have now tried FUJIFILM cds, and some other TDK brand. I just downloaded over $50 in new songs- yes its nice to have it on my iPOD but I could have just bought the cd in the store if it was going to be like this. I'm not using a DELL either. I'm using my trusty compaq lol. If anyone finds out how to fix this please let me know.
I did try something that someone else posted on another separate topic discussion. The posting said to change your write speed down to 12 (reeeeaaaallly slow, I know) but it did work. I burnt 4 CD's that night. Took forever, but it worked. I'm going to try up-ing the write speed to 24 to see if it will work too. Try that, see if it will work.
I'm having the same problem. Everything is upgraded, and yet I can't seem to burn more then 2 songs. I was hoping that the iTunes 6.01 update would address this issue, but alas it did not. Someone please help fix this.
Does anyone know how to burn a disc without it stopping, after burning two songs, and then saying that there was an unknown error while burning disc.. Error 4450... Please help me out with this, as I have gone threw like, 8 cd's now, and still cant figure out how to alleviate this situation... Thank you so much please, email me if at all possible, or reply to this message for other users to obtain help. my email is cmmiii77@yahoo.com
I've just read that several people are having the same Error 4450 problem. I did not have it until several months ago and my kids keep updating the latest iPod software (we're now on 6.0) but I think we've had the problem a couple upgrades ago. I see that some have had luck at 12X ... I've tried 24X with no luck and have also tried several brands of CD's. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.
I am getting this error on a Hewlett Packard machine running iTunes 6. I can burn playlists fine which do not contain anything that I have bought from iTunes. As soon as I introduce a purchased track the burn of the playlist cancels with error 4450. Apart from the fact that I have wasted money on the tracks I have bought, I have got through LOADS of wasted disks. SO FRUSTRATING! Isn't there any way of getting specific support from iTunes? Otherwise I'm dumping it and going to another system.
Sorry - it's me again! I should have mentioned that I have tried different brands of cds and different speeds - it makes no difference - it gets to the purchased track or, if the first track is a purchased one, it gets to the second one in the playlist and then cancels.

Hi,
I'm getting the same problem. Until Sue's message saying that she was getting it only on discs she tries to burn with purchased tracks on it I didn't realise I had the same problem as I wasn't getting any error messages (it was just hanging).
When I deleted the purchased track off it my cd burnt ok.
So, my problem is that I can't burn cd's from purchased tracks.
So, I won't be purchasing any more tracks from Itunes until they fix this problem. Any for the record for anyone from Itunes reading this - I haven't over used my allowance for the purchased tracks as I've only burnt them once before (before loading Itunes 6.0)
