Got the iphone on Friday and registered my iphone on itunes and everything was syncing fine. Everytime I turned on iTunes and connected my iphone, iTunes kept asking me to register my iphone (which I already did) so I kept hitting the button to Register Later, which allowed me to sync fine until I lost my patience. When I loaded itunes and saw the screen to register my iphone, I finally hit the don't ever register button which I suspect grayed out the Sync applications. So under iphone device > Applications tab, the sync applications is grayed out. So now I am unable to sync any applications or add apps. Now I wished I just reregisted my iphone again.
Is there a way to undo the register iphone preference and have itunes ask me to register the iphone again? Or do I need to do a restore to get the applications syncing again? Right now I'm too scared to mess up the iphone and don't want to do something that may break everything else. Please advise. Thanks, Jen
UPDATE: I gave in, and Reset my iPhone and then I restored my previous iPhone settings and was able to gain access to the Applications tab and synced my iphone with the apps just fine.
Of course I made sure to quit iTunes and started it up again to see if I can sync the applications again, and unfortunately under the Applications tab, the sync applications was grayed out again.
So I basically still have the same problem of getting the sync applications to work properly. Again, I think it has to do with the Register my iphone screen. Again, I did register my iphone, but the register my iphone screen kept coming up until I hit the don't ever register button (see Post 1). Which I believe created this problem: the applications graying out and me being unable to sync the apps. When I resync my iphone when the apps are grayed out, some of the apps don't work anymore.
The only solution I can think of is to find a way to undo the register iphone preference and have itunes ask me to register iphone again, which I have no clue on doing. ( I did find an itunes preference file but I have no clue how to alter the file properly since it has a bunch of numbers).
So if someone out there can help me out, that would be great! I need help.
UPDATE 3: I tried reinstalling iTunes and also deleted the com.apple.iTunes.plist file (which I believe is a preference file) before reinstalling iTunes and restarted iTunes and the Apps are still grayed out and am unable to sync the apps.
Sorry... I don't have a solution, but you aren't alone. I've experiencing the same problem on my phone (never jailbroken, official 2.0 release) and haven't yet had any replies to my thread either.
UPDATE: The temporary work around to being unable to sync apps using iTunes is to download the apps DIRECTLY on the iPhone (using the App Store application).
Anyway I've downloaded several apps on the iphone but when I downloaded two more additional apps (AIIM and the AOL Radio) and I went back into iTunes, the Applications weren't grayed out anymore. I'm not exactly sure why I can now sync my apps on iTunes, but I'm not complaining.
FYI... AIIM and AOL Radio app is free so you can feel free to see if that works, but if it doesn't you can easily delete the app as well.
Just to confirm Jen55, I used the iPhone App store to download a free app, then plugged my iphone back into my Mac. After that the App section of iTunes was no longer grayed out and I could sync Apps again. Seems like an easy work around until the issue is fixed.
