Boot Camp 2.1 + Windows Service Pack 3 Installation Failure / Error in XP

Guys

great help is needed, i installed windows XP on my MacBook Pro (OS X 10.5.4 2.4 GHz 2GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM) once into Windows XP. I noticed that there was no sound, so i consulted the forums. realizing that i had to re-insert my Leopard disc to install the drivers, i proceeded to do this...

here is the *FIRST ISSUE*

during the installation of the drivers from the leopard disc, i get some installation windows with the blue progress bars, then suddenly the screen with flash then i get a BLUE SCREEN WITH CODES on for about 0.5 seconds then the system crashes/reboots and then i hear the apple boot up sound (DURM!) and then i'm back in Windows XP with a send/don't send error message.

so i consulted the forums - i then started to download Windows Update - Service Pack 3 download

*SECOND ISSUE*

After downloading SP3, it begins installing, then suddenly i get a message saying

+Sevice Pack 3 Setup Error - There is not enough space on C:\WINDOWS|$NtServicePackUninstall$ to install Service Pack 3. Setup requires a minimum of 4 megabytes of free space or if you also want to archive the files for uninstallation, Setup requires 4 additional megabytes of free space. Free additional space on your hard dsk and try again+

what a load of crap - i have 25GB of free space!

*THIRD ISSUE*

again after consulting with the forums i tried downloading Boot Camp 2.1 (BCUpdateXP.exe) and again what a load of crap - this does nothing - i can see it in my documents folder, i double click it, i get a window, i click RUN and NOTHING

i've tried

+1) run: regedit.exe+

+2) search for: Boot Camp Services+
+the key should be: ProductName+

+3) change in the same path, the Language key to: 1033+

+4) run the installer again+

and this also didn't work

i'm still without SOUND!

I'm desperate to get windows XP and Boot Camp working on my MacBook Pro

Hmm. No expert advice to offer. My setup is almost the same as yours (same 'book, same OS 10.5.4, same 32 gig Win partition, same Win XP SP 2 install). I also got the same error code when I tried to install XP SP 3, tho...I had already successfully installed the drivers from the Leopard disk. Did you ever solve that problem? Seems like a prerequisite.

On the off chance you've solved the drivers problem, here's what I did to install XP SP 3. I credit you with pointing out I had to run the Boot Camp Update before XP SP 3. That was NOT intuitive, since I had just run software update. It's logical since OS 10 has no way of knowning if I'm running XP or Vista.

When I couldn't update to XP SP 3, I ran the optional downloads shown on Windows Update. One is an XP update, one a new version of IE, the third some malware uninstaller. Next, when I downloaded the Boot Camp Update 2.1 For Window XP, a popup window asked if I wanted to run or to save BCUpdateXP.exe. I clicked "Run," not Save. After dl, a dialog popped right up, asking if I wanted to repair/update or to uninstall. I clicked repair/update, and the Boot Camp drivers were repaired/updated (all this stuff seems to take a long time). After I restarted, Windows Update ran the XP SP3 update ran without a hitch.

Since this worked for me, have you tried deleting the Boot Camp Update and then the downloading from Apple again, this time choosing the "Run" box before the download?

i had the same error when trying to apply the Windows XP SP3 patch:

"There is not enough disk space on C:\WINDOWS\$NtServicePackUninstall$ to install Service Pack 3 Setup requires an additional 4 megabytes of free space or if you also want to archive the files for uninstallation,Setup requires 4 additional megabytes of free space. I found a fix here: http://www.windowsreference.com/general/error-there-is-not-enough-disk-space-whe n-installing-sp3/

the following text is copied straight from the web site:

This happens because iMac uses EFI file format which Windows XP does not support. To workaround this problem, add a registry key as follows:

1. Click Start - Run - Type “regedit” and press enter.

2. Navigate to

[HKEY LOCALMACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup]

HKEY LOCALMACHINE
\Software
\Microsoft
\Windows
\CurrentVersion
\Setup

3. In the right pane, Right-click and select New - String value

4. Name it as “BootDir” and set its value to “C:\”

i made the change to the registry and had no problems installing the SP3 update. i hope this works for you and anyone else having the same problem.

I'm getting the exact problem decribed in Article: HT1845. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1845

+"Failed to extract matching transform" messages may appear in the log when attempting to install.+

I've tried typing in the command prompt, as described:

+For Windows XP, type: msiexec /update <path to the .msp file>\BCUpdateXP.msp+

I get the same problem every time.

I have a Brazilian Portuguese Windows XP Home install with SP 3.

Can somebody help me?
