Macbook screen blacking out suddenly

Sounds like a system sleeping issue.

It could be the update but I cant promise you it is since Im still on Tiger.

What you can try is to repair permission.

If that fails you can always try to restore your system with the included DVD, but make sure you first back up everything. And stay un-updated, or try to update with the Apple combo update available here. The combo update is sometimes better then the automatic system updates.

It sounded more like a software problem, and I see from your information you are still on 10.5.2, try to upgrade it to the latest version and it may help.

If all fails, try to back up your HD and restore the computer using the factory DVD.

Or just simply take it down to a local apple store, or ring apple care, and explain to them what the problem is, Im sure they will be able to do something about it.

Its because your system is set to not power down the screen/system when external power is present.

As for the battery thing, make sure you follow this instruction to calibrate the battery at least once a month.

From reading the forum it seems that a few people's got the black out screen issue. So here's what I suggest you should do.

Back up you HD, restore your macbook with install DVD, then update the system via Apple Combo update. If the problem remains, restore the system with install DVD and stay un-updated until apple releases a new update.

Or, take it down to a local Apple store and have them take a look at it.

Does it goes totally black, like switched off? Or just dimmed?

Try going into system preferences, go to energy saver. There's settings in there that will turn off your screen at certain time intervals, it also applies when you are watching youtube videos.

I have the same problem with this, on my case though, I can still see the dock, but the rest of the applications are dead black, I have adium in space 1, itunes and mail on space 2, safari on space 3 and nothing on space 4. I don't know what's the reason and I am left with no option but to restart....hope any one here can help...thanks...

Go to applications, open utilities, double click on disk utility, select your system HD on the left hand column, then click repair permission near bottom right. While you are at it, do a verify disk as well.

Go to system preferences, go to energy saver, at the top with the scroll down menu you can change settings for power adapter or battery, and below that option there's optimization settings. And while you are there, go into options (button beside "Sleep") and see if there's any options you may want to change as well. You may have to click the little pad lock icon at bottom left corner to make changes.

I have tried repair permissions, and also verify permissions, but after a while of using the Mac, the screen went blank black again, and as mentioned earlier, the icons in the dock are still showing.....

ooopsss...sorry I haven't updated my settings, I already am 10.5.4 as I just had my software update recently, yeah, I might as well ring apple and ask them about how to rectify this problem.....
