Q: Powerbook Battery Query

So I've got two great 500 series 'books, and two batteries. One is dead; I can't get IBR, Lind, or VST utilities to bring it back after a solid week of trying. The other battery is in pieces; I was going to recell it but I have a question on that.

I understand the cells are A size Nickel Metal Hydride batteries, 1.2v, some 1200mAh or so. Instead of plopping down sixty bucks from DigiKey, could it feasibly be done with off-the-shelf NiMH batteries? The Energizer ones we have at my store are 1.2v, 2000mAh NiMH AA size. I understand the smaller size, but wouldn't that, in theory, work? Besides giving me more room in the pack to get everything crammed back in...

Just thought I'd put this one out there..maybe get some people thinking twice before plopping $150 on a new battery for their older 'books...
